Yours truly has just been prescribed a 4 days course of anti biotics by the dentist. The big question is,can you take alcohol during the course
The dentist says yes but only a very little.
The chemist,,a definite NO.
A google research,yes its ok.
The local watering hole about 50/50.
And you say????

Years ago as a student I was on antibiotics and went out on the piss. Never again.

It depends on the antibiotic. Some yes, some decidedly NO. Play safe, no alcohol.

As mentioned above it does really depend on the antibiotic.
I was on them earlier this year for a months course and asked the doc and she said one or two were ok.
If you do want a drink then google the name of your antibiotic and it should tell you - some will say best avoided and others a definate no no.
Either way be aware that if you do drink on antibiotics they may not be as effective.
Cheers

It depends on the antibiotic. Most dentists prescribe the anti bacterial drug called Metronidazol or Flagyl. The combination of Flagyl and alcohol can cause serious side effects including hot flashes, blood pressure changes, and liver damage. If you need to take antibiotics and plan on drinking alcohol, be sure to tell your doctor. If you are finishing up a course of Flagyl, wait a few days before drinking alcohol. Several years ago I did not wait for the Flagyl to pass out of my system - and it was to my cost!!!!

Perhaps just bite the bullet and NOT drink - not the end of the world not to drink alcohol.

Have a read of this insight by Adrian Chiles who considered himself a social drinker and didn't realise how much he was drinking a week.

How many people on here know what your recommended units per week is?
How many people on here know how many units are in a pint of beer or a large lass of wine?

It seems a no brainer really! If the course of the antibiotic is for 4 days only, just stay off the alcohol! It will probably work better and do your liver good!

I read that when antibiotics were first discovered, they were used to treat VD in servicemen. Because of the worry of the servicemen going drinking and infecting others, and being re-infected before a course was finished, they were told that alcohol and antibiotics didn't mix, and the advice has been passed on ever since!
