Phillippos is the only supermarket serving that side of Pafos and judging by the number of shoppers, is a necessity.
IMHO, they should be granted retrospective planning consent simply based on the service they provide to the area. Hit them with a hefty fine though to discourage others doing the same.

It’s difficult to understand how such a substantial building could be built without anyone from the local municipality noticing

Yeah that's what I don't get. It's either a hugely blatant bung or.... well, I don't know what the or is, to be honest. Are the officials really that inefficient?

Not too sure 'inefficient' may be the appropriate word Dominic!

It used to be two supermarkets side by side. When one closed Phillipos took it over and incorporated it into theirs. I wonder if it had planning permission.

We have just the same in Latchi where it is said that the new hotel has been stopped because it is too high.
It's now just become a blot on the landscape and you have to wonder how the builders can get such a thing wrong.
