I think people want action rather than more talks.

What is there left to talk about when they have been talking off and on for over 40 years?! Plus one side doesn’t really want to settle or compromise.

If they did walk away I would force the administrations to talk to each other (police, health service etc).

The trouble we might have if the UN decides to walk away (and I’ve heard that they are, as they have places where the UN troops deployed here would be better employed), is that there is an irresponsible and militant minority on both sides who would be only too happy to provoke each other till the first shot is fired.
The UN troops act as a police force who defuse any situations which might provoke the other side on the green line - which might otherwise escalate.
