Reservoir Water levels are rising at last!

Just checked the Govt’s Reservoir Levels table. It now shows that water levels in Asprokremnos Dam are 33% full, while the Everitou Dam is showing 40%. Its nice to see the recent rainfall is now reaching the reservoirs, but there is still some wayto go before they get near being full.

Yeeesss! There has been almost as much inflow so far this winter than in total for the two years 13/14 and 15/16. Smaller reservoirs are already full while the bigger ones are gradually filling. Good news for the summer.

So incredible, I still keep saying I've never known it so cold, when I'm pretty sure I have! But summer?? Sitting out in unbearable humid temperatures?? Do we really do that???

At the beginning of every summer I say with I won't complain about the heat this year, but I do. At the end of every summer I say I'm looking forward to getting snuggled up for the winter, and I do, for about 2 weeks.

I've felt as cold as this maybe once or twice in the early days, just after moving here, when the house was drying out but I've had enough of this weather now. However, on the plus side the reservoirs are filling up so I'll put up with it a bit longer and hope they reach a good level.

Ok, so what punishment shall we inflect on the first person who moans about the heat in a few months time? :)

I went up to Kannaiou Dam this afternoon. To me the water level looks the same as it was last November.

The figure you've quoted for Kannaviou HiC is the percentage of water in the dam not the MCM, if we had 24 MCM of water there then you probably wouldn't see Kannaviou?

For whatever reason, Kannaviou was used heavily this winter to supply drinking water to Paphos at the expense of Asprokremmos and therefore started at a much lower level when the rains came. The important figure to look at is the total for the Paphos region which yesterday showed that we have almost twice as much water as we did in the same period last year and over 3 MCM more than the maximum recorded last year! And we have still got more rain (and snow melt) to come! :)

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:16 pm Hi Phil. As of yesterday (Friday) morning the level at Kannaviou is up significantly up on 12 months ago (24.1 mcm vs. 17.1) , but the improvement is not as great as with some dams. The Kouris dam for example has nearly tripled in volume.
The Kouris dam gets water transferred from Arminou dam via huge pipe and that's why there is more input. (11.1.19 : 7,520 MCM from Arminou)

There was also a leak in the Kannivou to Peyia pipellne earlier in the year. It produced a nice big Tom-and-Jerry like fountain right near our house.
