Copeland By Election Result

Copeland was won by the Conservatives (13,748) from Labour (11,601) the latter having held the seat for the last 62 years. Not so close a result after all.

Hoping to win, but we didn't.
As did UKIP!Rita Sherry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2017 12:22 pm Flossie wrote "The main employer is Sellafield" that it appears was the problem for Labour. Mr Corbyn's stance on anything Nuclear caused concern for all those people employed at Sellafield plus the Conservative candidate is a local lady. That is the reasoning from the analysis given last night/this morning.
Quite unusual for a By Election to favour the sitting government candidate, the last time was in 1966 (not in Stoke).
As for Stoke-on-Trent I did point out in an earlier post that the populace is notorious for low turn outs at election time but this one was exceedingly low. However, along with Poppy also in an earlier post, did not doubt Labour would retain the seat which they have held since the thirties. It was however another potential for the Conservatives had UKIP not fielded a candidate as there was no swing from the Conservatives to UKIP as was predicted in fact they increased their total.

Is that the same people that voted for him?merchant_banker wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2017 7:53 pm Tony Blair wants a second election, he says people didn't know what they were voting for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, but I can never find anyone who admits to voting for Blair!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think there is a law called 'joint enterprise" - maybe that has something to do with it.

Don't know why you're shocked Flossie. Labour have had that seat since 19canteen and just look at the place. Apart from the honeypots like Keswick and Sellafield (which Corbyn is lukewarm about) West Cumbria has nothing going for it. I think people have just had enough and think anything has to be better, tho tbh I actually thought Ukip might take it as they also canvassed hard on the hospital issue.Flossie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2017 6:29 am That's my local area and I'm shocked - the Tories will close the only hospital in the area meaning a 60 mile trip to Carlisle if there's an emergency or a woman's in labour, whereas Labour were campaigning to keep it open!!!
The main employer is Sellafield and with the plans for a new reactor seemingly hitting problems I have no idea what will happen.
What on Earth were people thinking?!!
