When is a snowman NOT a snowman?

The Ministry of Morale is urging its citizens to refrain from referring to snow sculptures (which are predominantly made by kids/parents) as ‘snowmen’ and instead refer to them as: ‘snow entities’.

This is because there is a very small group of people with a very loud voice, who seem to get offended by the term ‘snowman’ despite the fact that, traditionally, snowmen tend to pop up whenever it snows.

Despite the fact that budding snow sculptures are free to create a ‘snow entity’ with any gender of their choosing, traditionally, these creations tend to be of the male variety.

The Ministry of Morales’ common sense department has also seen some references being made (when talking about gender neutral snow entities) to ‘snow pals’ or ‘snow buddies’ rather than just calling these temporary sculptures ‘snowmen’.

Our Chief Morale Officer said:

“Whilst it is hard to conceive of ‘snow entities’ being made when there is no sign of any snow at the moment, we would nonetheless ask citizens to refer to these creations as ‘snow entities’ rather than ‘snowmen’.

“This request is being made owing to the fact that a very small group of people seem to have become offended by the reference to ‘snowmen’ despite the fact that 99.99% could not give two hoots about ‘snow entities’ being referred to as ‘snow men’.

“However, because these snowflakes have extremely loud voices, we are assessing that the overall morale of the nation could be adversely affected by all of the negative press surrounding this ridiculous subject.

“So, hopefully, by referring to ‘snowmen’ as ‘snow entities’ then morale will be maintained, albeit at the cost of common sense”.

“If, like us, then this situation is giving you a headache, then we would maybe like to suggest building ‘snow cones’ instead of building snow entities”.

This regulation requires that bananas as a minimum standard must not have "abnormal curvature",[5], although no definition or guidance was given about the degree of curvature that would be regarded as "abnormal". This led to various stories about an EU ban on either curved[6] or excessively curved[7][8] bananas. This has been frequently repeated by pro-Europeans and Euro-sceptics alike; the former tending to regard it as an apocryphal or misleading Euromyth[6][8] and the latter regarding it as an example of needless European bureaucracy.[7][9]

On 29 July 2008, the European Commission held a preliminary vote concerning the repeal of certain regulations related to the quality of specific fruit and vegetables that included provisions related to size and shape. According to the Commission's press release, "In this era of high prices and growing demand, it makes no sense to throw these products away or destroy them." The Agriculture Commissioner stated, "This is a concrete example of our drive to cut red tape and I will continue to push until it goes through. [...] It shouldn't be the EU's job to regulate these things. It is far better to leave it to market operators."[10]
