If they broke a patio window, I cannot see why they could not just walk in without undoing the bolts..

Patio Doors use one piece glass, they have plastic sections inside to give the appearance of glass sections, as Trev says, a blow with a hammer will shatter the glass into hundreds of pieces, no need to un pick anything.

Well looking at the photos of the damage on the Facebook page, the glass was broken and cracked around the lock area and the rest intact..

I also looked at the photo on the facebook page and they are not glass panels as you said, It looks like it has been levered that's why you have a crack, hit it full on with a hammer and it will shatter.

I think many would be surprised to know that most patio doors are not made of the type of toughened glass that shatters. I have witnessed several glass breaks in holiday properties and several break-ins. All of them with cracked and jagged bits - never a windscreen type shatter. I spoke to a glass installer about this and he told me that these doors would cost an absolute fortune to put safety glass in and almost no developer used it as it was cost prohibitive.

Not referring to Hudswell but it would be helpful if the person or company who originally posts information about break ins was more specific about the location rather than saying it was in Chloraka. Likewise previous reports in Peyia or Tala or Kissonerga.

This year I have read reports about break ins in Peyia, Mandria, Timi, Geroskipou, Tala, Kissonerga, Emba, Chloraka, Kato Paphos and Universal (possibly more but these have been areas that have been mentioned a few times), so Flossie as to your question regarding why I would like more information it does help if people can give more specific location details.

I just see it as an overall problem affecting Paphos, whereas if people are aware of a problem near them then they will keep a more specific look out for any unusual events and if they see anything out of the ordinary hopefully report them to the police by telephoning 1460 and make other people aware.

It is everyones responsibility to make your home as burglarproof as you can. Upgrade external door locks, consider having lockable shutters on patio doors, consider having grilles fitted on shutterless windows, and on bathroom windows. I have decorative ones which look quite attractive.Over the years haven’t had any break ins. The house doesn’t look easy to break into from the road.
We also have been told to report any suspicious vehicles loitering on our road, note reg no and type. Notify the police if there are people in it.
Its a shame to need to think about security on a daily basis, but it can prevent a lot of possible trouble.

Agree with what you said. The developer of the site where I live has installed CCTV cameras on the entrance roads to our development. All these measures are supposed to deter would be burglars.
