Nine years ago, I wrote a 38-page essay on the possibility of a Waste-to-Energy plant in the Latsia area. It met with a stony silence from the powers-that-be. I've just re-read it and realise that it is largely still valid. If anyone wants to read it, I can send them the PDF file.
The environment and the Nicosia General Hospital area

Programme, the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment and the US Environmental Protection
Agency (retd.)

Introduction
Not only the Hospital but also many of the nearby buildings are wasteful of energy and water and
create unnecessary pollution, in particular greenhouse gases contributing to Cyprus’ carbon dioxide
emissions. This essay discusses some of these issues in the form of a suggested project and how, in
the short and medium terms, some of these problems may be significantly reduced by using
available energy sensibly and generating constant electric energy from a free renewable source (not
to be confused with wind and solar energies, which can never be constant). At the same time, this
would reduce another severe problem that Cyprus faces, that of landfills, as well as reducing fossil
carbon emissions.
