Paphos: parking violations getting out of control, citizens say

The issue of people parking illegally in Paphos is getting out of control, citizens report.

The problem is most obvious in commercial centres and touristic areas.

People who live and work in those areas say that parking violations are disrespectful towards pedestrians, bussiness owners and residents.

Complainants say that although they have repeatedly approached the police and municipal authorities, the problem remains unresolved, despite the frequent presence of traffic officers in the streets.

“This shows the extent of the problem,” they said. “Since many of our fellow citizens do not understand the consequences of their unacceptable behavior, our city should organise a campaign to raise awareness for these malpractices and identify those involved in them.”

We go regularly to Paps at the harbour to do shopping. Quite often / always there are rental cars parked in the Pay and display places at the front of the store. I have yet to see one with a payment ticket on the windscreen..

The police have a huge lack of responsible policing in areas such as this. It's simply not acceptable to turn a blind eye to this behaviour, just as it isn't with use of mobile phones, lack of seat belts for children, ignoring red lights, speeding......... the list is endless. The police simply have to do the job they are paid for instead of bringing forces down from Nicosia to do the job the Paphipos police should be doing on a daily basis!!!

Maybe if the traffic wardens enforced illegal parking instead of just riding round on their scooters and having a chat with their "mates" then the police wouldn't have to divert their resources? And before anybody jumps in, I have seen numerous occasions where said traffic wardens are in serious dereliction of their duties!

Mind you, last time the traffic wardens cracked down, people moaned about it here...

But yes, if nothing else, it would be a good source of revenue.

Oh I know this is the wrong thread, but you were right Trev, unfortunately. That shop on the road by Kallepia does indeed appear to be closed now.
