Electric authority again....

Thanks for all your answers earlier...now next question..if you are already a customer of Electric authority and you pay bills by direct debit and you don't owe any money on the account and you're moving to a new apartment...do you still need to pay the 200 € deposit??

Yes because they treat the 2 properties as separate entities but you should get a deposit back on the first property though!

............also if the deposit rate has gone up, you have to pay the new rate, but only get refunded the old rate. The bureaucracy at AEC is incredible and no one has any authority to take a decision, the rules being cast in tablets of stone.

How about this? I hadn't received my February bill by email so I went to the EAC office yesterday and they told me that the meter had been read on the correct date (7th February) but they hadn't sent me the bill because it was a lot higher than my normal average usage for this time of year! I said that surely it would have made more sense to contact me to find out if I was aware of this. I was given a printout of the bill but no plausible explanation and when I checked my emails later, sure enough there was the electricity bill! I pay by direct debit so the bill would have been paid anyway.

I can't comment on your particular problem but must ask the question "what has it got to do with the OP's question"? May be you should have created a separate post for this!

If you have had the final meter reading confirmed, they will transfer the balance to a new account. If you want an overlap (say for a few days of moving), then you have to pay the new €200 for the new account and get a refund of the previous deposit when you disconnect it. It's really easy - you just take the paperwork upstairs and they give you it in cash.

No they won't and in the case of a person who I have power of attorney for, the difference was €100 less.
