Discovered today that the bag of almonds bought from LIDL 2 weeks ago were infested with maggots. Beware unless you like added protein!

Maggots in Almonds??

Never heard of that.

What kind of fly lays eggs on almonds?

In the UK, our bin would get emptied every week. In summer we would occasionally find maggots in it, so they would have been laid less than a week ago. If you bought your nuts two weeks ago, isn't it more likely that the eggs were laid in your house?

Yes, but unless its caterpillars look like maggots it's not that.

Flossie wrote: Sun Nov 04, 2018 7:37 am Yuk - a few years ago I once bought loose nuts from an outside market stall and on returning home put them in the store cupboard. A while later when I wanted to use them on opening the bag a swarm of winged critters flew out, so I now only buy them in sealed bags!!
We have found bugs before in Flour/pasta, they were in sealed bags.

Since I placed in every food cupboard pantry moth pads (from Lidl  ) , never found any bugs in food anymore... I have to exchange them from time to time though...as they are covered with dead moth.

"Yep - most of us have had these nasties! I now keep opened bags of flour, etc inside tupperware containers in the fridge!"

Flossie are these genuine Tupperware containers or is that a euphemism for the plastic containers we can buy in the supermarkets?

Really surprised at that, I always thought moths, didn't bother with tiny nuts,

I think the only thing you need to concern yourself with HIC is WHL's fascination with other people's nuts....thankfully in bags.....not pick and mix....😉
You were asking about my nuts, quote All Present and correct....yours?.... I think its you with the fascination, don't stress Hudswell , be Proud
