The current year will be the last year when it will not be mandatory for a Cypriot tax resident under the tax-free annual income limit of €19500 to file a tax return.
From 2019 everyone will be required to submit a tax declaration .

Funny we were talking about this on a thread not long ago .

"Even those who are not liable for a tax payment will need a few minutes to confirm that they are tax-free," the Minister noted.
Will be interesting to see whether it will really be just a couple of minutes. Isn´t there a fee to pay in order to get a tax identification number?

Yes there is a fee to pay. I think I saw that it had now gone up to €50 or €80

The fee was 80€ each when we did ours back in 2011 , a special triangular stamp .

No , the fee goes to Cyprus , previously I lived in France and there was no charge .

The form is the P85 , and as I said I used the same form in France with no fee .

In Cyprus the stamp is a special triangular one that you can only buy at the tax office , so the money goes into the tax office , which they claim is their fee .

No regrets , just a one off fee , and seams a fair amount .

Hudswell wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:37 pm Yes I realise that, but the "Stamp" goes on the DT (Individual), the HMRC form that has to be authorised by the Cypriot Authorities in order to "deregister" from the UK tax system. I still have a copy of the form I sent back to the UK. I don't think it costs anything to get your TIC.
I think Hudswell is right. No charge to get a Cypriot TIC. Yes there is a charge when you hand over the forms to get the reciprocal tax agreement into operation but this should not be confused with anything to do with submitting a tax return here in Cyprus to the local tax office. This tax submission is the one that now can only be done online.

A lot of us will have got our TIC in the days when we were paying the government IPT which has now been abolished (Not the one imposed by the local municipalities).

The tax return will probably be used to demand money for the new health service funding as everybody will have to pay !

How do these UK tradesmen get away with operating a "cash only" system?

Probably because the "ex pat" community encourages them. I have seen lots of posts on here asking about British builders, car service, pool maintenance, etc

There is nothing wrong with accepting cash... All the big supermarkets do it every day.. ;-)
What people seem to be bothered about is whether everyone declares it.. And no they don't including doctors and lawyers..

We were not talking about Supermarkets, not bothered if its someone painting your house or a doctor, if you don't declare, then no sympathy if you get your collar felt.

Alan asked... " How do these UK tradesmen get away with operating a "cash only" system " ?
Why single out UK tradesman. I was just pointing out that lots of people / firms in Cyprus use cash and not cards..
OK leave supermarkets out, as they do accept cards as well. But there are a number of businesses in Paphos that don't accept cards, but trade in cash..
