It is strange that we have not noticed this in our water supply just outside Polemi. I believe we get our water from the Kannavou dam..

So far ours in Anarita has been all right. However, when we do go into Paphos we really notice the foul smell from the drains, which seems to be coming up out of the grids.

Normally when we come out we buy a pack of water then refill from drinking tap and stick in the fridge. All was as usual until last Saturday (I think) when it tasted a bit fusty so we went back to the bottled stuff. First time that's happened.
Staying by the harbour as we usually do.

I haven't noticed a nasty smell but since we arrived 3 weeks ago I have been drinking bottled water as the taste of the water from the tap is awful. I am still using tap water for tea and cooking. Hope it gets sorted out soon as I hate adding to the plastic mountain.

Fascinating article on Geosmin on Wikipedia.
Apparently .... ....Under acidic conditions, geosmin decomposes into odorless substances.....
So perhaps a few drops of lemon juice in the water before boiling will help.

Yesterday, we were out on an off road drive in the Paphos Forrest which included a section very close to the Kannaviou Dam. The water level was so low on the dam wall its unsurprising then if it has an earthy taste. Looking at the Govt’s Water Development web page, I also noticed that the Asprokremnos from which Paphos’s water comes was only 19% full...
I felt concerned that with water supplies still so low and no rain forecast for the next 10 days at least, there still hasn’t been any formal announcement about water rationing...
Since Paphos has no desalination plant, maybe its time to make approaches to N. Cyprus who once offered the south water. Thanks to their undersea pipeline from Turkey they have plenty of water there..

At the moment Paphos water is coming from Kannaviou not Asprokremnos but I agree levels are very low but not as low as I would have expected given the lack of rain fall!

Paphos has been constructing a new desalination plant at Kouklia and it is supposed to come on line in 2019 some time ……………… better late than never!

I read an article recently regarding a host of problems the "North" is experiencing which included among other things problems with water supply! Apparently, politics are getting in the way of distribution and the water is not getting to where it is needed, so I guess if they can't sort out there own supply issues then how could they hope to provide a guaranteed supply to the South?

Hopefully the north will sort their issues out and the leaders of both communities have started theit talks about resuming their talks again where they left off in Switzerland last year.... It was recently reported in the local press.

HIC, you may be right, but very important economic factors are involved. Apart from the north wanting its share of any gas extracted from the undersea, the south will be desperate for extra water if the current drought continues. Yes, there is desalination in most parts of Cyprus ( except Paphos ) but it is very expensive to produce water this way.

Remember when the power station blew up at Zigi,it was rumoured that electricity could be sourced from the north, the head Archbishop said at the time"we should live life by candle light rather than except this offer"
Theres a hell of a long way to go for reunification.

This is wrong! North Cyprus offered help AND delivered electricity to the South grid after the explosion of the power plant in the South. After some days there were technical problems though as there was no proper protection from overloads.
(part of an article in the CMail...

"The decision to link the two grids was taken in May as part of a series of measures to build confidence between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.

The two communities however, had co-operated in this area twice in the past, in 2006 and most recently in 2011.

This last time was in the wake of naval base explosion in July 2011, which incapacitated the biggest power station in South Cyprus.

In the aftermath the government sought assistance from Turkish Cypriots as it struggled to deal with rolling power cuts.

They were later disconnected as there was no protection from overloads.")
