Kato Archimandrita

A few weeks ago we visited the sleepy village of Archimandrita. We touched briefly then, on its abandoned neighbour, but got distracted with other things before we were able to visit it and tell you what we found. Better late than never, here is our look at Kato Archimandrita, abandoned due to its remoteness and ruled now by goats.

An interesting blog, but one that leaves more questions than answers, I think. Why were all the houses gutted and their roofs removed? Often in abandoned villages the houses might be empty but usually they aren’t left in ruins. When the villagers left someone must have returned to destroy the houses and make then uninhabitable as they look to have been strongly built stone buildings. I wonder if there is more history to this.

I ask those questions in the blog. However, they look no different from the other abandoned villages we have visited. Even Statos and Agios Fotios had their share of similar ruins.
