Hudswell, your capitalist views dont work. Nobody says each country has a value - but it’s pensions in RELATION to average earnings.

Whatever the UKs position on the list, the fact is our pensions could be a damned sight better if a little less was sent overseas every year as aid, a little less was given to all the "refugees" who cross many safe countries to get to the UK, and a little less was given unto the 2nd and 3rd generation scroungersnin families across the UK. Just little stuff like that.

Perhaps it also means that people in the UK have an average earning income much higher than, say, in Bangladesh or South Africa. The real criterion is the standard of living when on the pension; the percentage in the list is totally meaningless.

It isn’t totally meaningless. The average working wage gives some indication of earnings needed to live in a country. It isn’t as scientific as being related to costs of living, but is an indicator.

I think that the average earnings in some countries such as Poland or indeed Cyprus and many other countries are down to the knuckle and possibly provide the bare minimum standard of living thus any percentage of this is below any reasonable standard if that makes sense?

The UK state pension is one of the worlds worst JimW is correct, there is no doubting this, many of us paid into the state system all our working lives, it would be almost impossible to live on and why we mostly pay into a works or private scheme's, we do not all have large private pensions either, but at least it tops up what the tories give us. My daughters Cypriot father in law is the same age as me, his Cypriot pension is higher than my UK State pension by a fair margin.

Here’s a real example. Many years ago, the government decided to increase teachers pension contributions. They said they couldn’t afford to pay otherwise.
The unions looked at the ‘pot’ and what income it would bring at government rates. It then looked at life expectancy of teachers post retiral. It also looked at the fact that st that time, a widower could not get the pension of his deceased wife.
Taking that into account the unions said “give us the pot, we will invest in government bonds and reduce the contribution and run the scheme”. Of course, nothing happened as the pot didn’t exist. It was already spent.

Not only is the chart worthless, it is deliberately misleading in order to make a point.
It is an example of a much more sinister and pervasive phenomenon.
We unfortunately find ourselves in post-modern, post-truth times when, devoid of all absolutes [for fear of offending anyone], we are finding out what George Orwell foresaw for 1984. [Which coincidentally was when this stuff really took off].
The MSM is part fiction, part distortion and part untruth by omission.
Brexit was the consequence of this effect, when after a long period of lies, misinformation and concealment of the truth, a groundswell of public anger against the corrupt EU led to the leave vote.
A similar scenario in the USA of liberal left establishment arrogance, imagined superiority, and complacency led to the election of President Trump.

As to the pension graph being worthless, I really dont think so.... in fact, it is very indicative. It might not be specific but gives relative comparison.
