"Air of Freedom" for Verga, Sarikas, Vassiliou and Malkidakis
The four prisoners in the case of Sapa, Savvas Vergas, Phidias Sarikas, Vassos Vassiliou and Eftichios Malekkidis passed the exit gate of the Central Prison yesterday afternoon.
All four were released prematurely upon a petition to the Council for the Release of Custodial Licenses on the basis of legislation recently passed by the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, as informed by the CNA , detainees at the central prisons have made a peaceful protest of their favorable treatment, as they denounce, named prisoners who are applying for detention from the Council.
The prisoners also held placards with slogans such as "We demand equal treatment", "We have families", "We also want a second chance", "Do not be afraid of the families of convicts" and "Equal treatment in Parole".
General Prosecutor Costas Clerides, in a statement, said that immediate corrective measures should be taken by the State in relation to the Emergency Council, noting that "the image is presented, based on the relevant legislation as it stands, convicts convicted for serious criminal offenses including corruption, to be released a lot before some people even pay half of the sentence imposed on them by the competent court.
