If you have a diesel car get a pack of filters from the chemists or amazon and if its only 8 litres tip it in the fuel tank once filtered with three quarters of a tank of diesel ( assuming your tank is roughly 50 litres) and it will burn off no problem with that ratio of mix

I would be very careful re adding cooking oil to diesel, I have heard of problems with the fuel tank and pump, It would be good if Devil could give us a bit more info.

Considering the cost of the filters to get 8 litres of fuel, IMHO its not even worth risking buggering up your engine

Anyone who uses filtered cooking oil in a diesel engine would want his head examining, aside from the fact that it is strictly illegal. What is in used oil? Probably only about 50 percent of it is what you think it is. The other 50 percent are lipo-soluble food matter (oils, greases, polymers et cetera), polymerised oil, even water which has homogenised from the food et cetera. None of that would do an engine any good; in fact, it would do it a lot of harm in quite a short while.
There exists purification plants at the level where a garage can re-purify waste oil to a quality suitable for use in engines, with a capacity of typically 100 to 500 litres per day. These remove all the impurities, crack the large molecules and chemically modify the oil into lighter fractions. I believe the cost of these mini plants is from about €80,000 up to €500,000. They are economically valid only for large users, such as fleet owners.
Another problem is that the smell and smoke of using filtered but unpurified used oil in a diesel engine would attract the attention of the fuzz and, worse, the fiscal authorities for not having paid duty on the fuel.

It may be illegal in Cyprus but not in the UK – You can buy this in most towns,
UK customs and excise have stated that a certain amount of biofuel can be used by an individual each year without attracting tax – And 8 litres of filtered oil in a tank full of diesel will not even be noticed never mind damage the engine it is used widely in the uk and has the distinctive smell of a chip shop in fact if you do a google search there is a woman in cumbria with a transport business who was on one of the tomorrows world type programmes approx a year ago who runs her whole fleet of wagons on new cooking oil bought direct from the manufacturer with no ethanol or other additives and has no problems whatsoever as with all things in life the theory and the practice are two different things. And we are talking about 8 litres, I agree if used as neat oil and no diesel this does cause problems after around a year of use and I know of people who have ran their vehicles on filtered oil and had fuel pump seals swell and cause leaks but this is after an awful lot of filtered oil, I also know a lot of people who run their vehicles on new cooking oil and nothing else and have had no issues whatsoever and the saving against the cost of diesel is worth it. But we are talking about 8 litres in a full tank as a one off So no need to have a Hissy Fit Devil.

Most people around where I live use Rapeseed in the green and yellow 20 litre drums from MAKRO probably only because it is the cheapest form of fuel and easy to pour straight in to your tank because it has a pull out plastic spout so no spillage

There used to be a tank opposite the school in Pegeia for used oil but I'm not sure if it is still there

I would think Devil is more qualified to comment then anyone else on here, ... I would take his advice any day of the week.. no need for you to be impolite.

One can see that you are working in the oil industry Andreas..
Anyhow thanks for the information, looks interesting to me as I like my chips, but hate deep frying at home...
By the way: I collect old cooking olive oil/butter in containers over the year and when winter rain comes it is ideal to start a fire to burn dry weeds...
I wonder if the recycling places around the district have also containers in place for old oils.... Dominic perhaps knows...

There are many things you didn't come across Lloyd...
Koupes are delicious when fresh in the early morning, available at many larger kiosks. I buy sometimes one at the Periptero in Konia, just some lemon juice on top.... excellent.
