A bill regulating and taxing the income on short-term Airbnb-style property rentals should go to the plenum within a fortnight, lawmakers said on Tuesday.
The stated objective of the legislative proposal – drafted by two MPs – is to regulate the ‘unchecked’ rental of villas and residences as well as apartments for tourism purposes.
According to Edek MP Elias Myrianthous, one of the bill’s authors, there are currently an estimated 40,000 accommodations across the island being used for short-term rentals that are unlicensed and thus not subject to the legislation governing tourist lodgings.

I would imagine you will need , the committee to sign a form, giving their blessing.

Presumably, if you know about these offences, you will be reporting them to the relevant authorities will you?

Are you seriously trying to tell us this isnt going on....as for grassing them up, if someone lived next to me , and was renting out illegally, and it was causing a nuisance to the neighbors ...yes then I would grass them up, just as I would grass a driver I knew was drinking and driving....cheers

In May 2016 I was told I was entitled to a Cypriot Social card to give me a 50% reduction in bus & coach fares. I was sent a form all in Greek to complete, which with help I did & posted it off. 6 months later I called in to the Citizens Centre to enquire where my Social card had got to in the system. Was told they were having problems sourcing the cards (from Romania!) & it would be issued as soon as possible. Months passed & still no card, so off again to Citizen Centre. Still no card, but issued with an A5 piece of paper, hand written & signed & 'stamped' to say I was entitled to my 50% off!
Would I be right in thinking that I'll never get my plastic card?!!
So, Lloyd is right, there is no facility in Cyprus to embark upon, let alone introduce such a system re holiday lettings. Why do politicians here waste so much time debating things they must know could never succeed?
