Ann Douglas and Martin Douglas are hosting a coffee morning/buffet lunch to raise money for Macmillan’s Cancer Support.

Date: Friday 28th September, 2018

Venue: The Turtle Tavern, Argaka (by kind permission of Gary and Ann Milner)

Time: from 11.00 am

Please support this very worthy cause. Come along, bring your family and friends, and tell everyone you know.

Coffee/tea and cake for a donation of €5,00 (or more if you like). Bake a cake and bring it along if you would like to. You can never have too many cakes.

Buffet lunch (from 1.00 pm) for a donation of €5,00 (or more if you like). Bring some savouries along if you would like to.

The bar will be open for those of us who need something a little stronger.

Every Euro raised will go directly to Macmillan’s Cancer Support.

The day we prepared for is over, and it never seemed that busy ... more a steady trickle than a deluge. Quite a few takers for coffee and some very scrummy cakes, and slightly fewer for the buffet lunch. Raffle tickets were sold and a draw held. But, and this surprised and delighted us, we had collected over €800,00.

And the money continued to come in after the event was over. One anonymous gentleman came in and offered €100,00 for the boat trip (donated by Latchi Watersports), which was accepted. He then handed the prize back and suggested it was auctioned at Monday night’s quiz and bingo night.

With support from local businesses, prizes from the local community, promotion from Rock FM (after a simple email asking whether we might have a mention) and the support of many British expats in Argaka and Polis, we were both exhausted and delighted. Of course without the help and generosity of Gary and Ann at the Turtle Tavern none of this would have been possible.
