BA customer credit cards accessed by fraudsters when making bookings.

BA have stated they have contacted everyone by email, apparently... Let's hope so!

I returned from London by British Airways on Wednesday (5/9) and have received the promised email from BA. Checked my credit card statement and all is as it should be - thank you BA for your prompt service and good trip. I advise anyone who has booked and paid by credit card to check their account in any event.

Very sensible re change of password which I would expect from you. Did mine as soon as I reached home on Wednesday evening on receipt of BA's email and Banks information. Anyone losing out re their credit card would have the Banks guarantee re refund but the whole picture was more serious at the time and hopefully the nasty criminal/s involved will be caught. Hope all goes well re your trip (health wise) and await hearing further re Cobalt.

Just seen the news report and the indications are that names, addresses, email addresses, credit card number, issue date and importantly the CVV 3 digit code has been seized in the hacking of the database.

It's been recommended to cancel the card used to make the payment and any others linked to your BA account.

They're going to be hit with a very hefty fine!

I think in all probability your assumption is probably correct as was last nights news information. I changed my return date of departure from the UK than that originally booked and incurred an extra fee which transaction was done on 28th August so explains why I received the email from BA. Nevertheless I have changed my password and my cards expire end of October also so heres hoping but so far no unusual transactions listed on my statements. Have a good and successful trip.

My card details at Barclaycard were apparently hacked according to the email received this morning from BA.

I contacted Barclaycard Fraud Dept & was told that they are closely monitoring those customers accounts & that should a successful attempt be made I would not suffer any loss. There was no need to issue a new card unless I particularly wanted one. I said no, just leave it and see what happens.

that article confirms the news item I saw reported in the UK on Friday evening.

They did state that anyone who has their bank / credit card details stored within their BA account who made a booking or amended a booking within the timespan of dates mentioned should ask to have their cards reissued.

The hackers stole all of the necessary information which is requested when you make an online payment - including the CVV 3 digit code from the back of the card.

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. I would demand my cards were reissued.

Personally I think British Airways is a poor shadow of how it was back in the day, never use them now , high ticket prices, dirty planes, sticky seats, etc etc,In my opinion they should concentrated on giving their passengers a better service instead of concentrating time and money on issues that shouldnt involve them,.

No need to demand Photolady - I just requested reissued cards although my old ones would have expired end of October in any event. New cards now in my possession.

Just for information, there is no need to change passwords as these are not held by BA, just by you.

The final straw for me was a flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam, as I sat in my seat, I felt by back side getting wet, touched my hand on the seat and it was wet, obviously the previous passenger had spilled something on it, or worse, I called the steward over , told him if there was another seat I could have, he wasn't really interested, and said its only a forty five minute flight and the plane was full, no apology or any thing, in the end I got him to get me a blanket and I sat on that, had the flight been longer I would of made more of it, but it was the twats attitude that sealed my never flying with BA again.

Under GDPR rules now, if the company is proven to not have adequate systems in place and is in breach, then they can be fined a minimum of £150,000 and up to 4% of worldwide turnover
