We were in Jumbo a few days ago and noticed there are now
several openings throughout the store for easier access to get
from one dept to another.
It saves a very long walk round the store when you are maybe
just going in for 1 item which may be near the checkout area.

The music is still "dire" :D

At last, hopefully I can now beta my ‘in and out’ personal best of 6 minutes!

Christmas isn't Christmas until I've heard those Jumbo Jingles.

There are certain things in Jumbo that are dirt cheap and reasonable quality …………… the place reminds me of Woolworths to be honest!

2 stores I hate the most in the world - Jumbo and Sports Direct. I have to visit these store twice a year and can never find what I'm looking for without a 14 mile journey up, down, round and round the damn shops. The prices do dictate my visits tho I have to say

The jigsaw puzzles are very reasonably priced and of a decent quality; I've bought lots from there.

No it isn't. Most of the times I've been in there the women far outnumber the men. I don't think anybody likes the music though. It's just weird.

I think Woolies is a good comparison, thought Jumbo doesn't have a Pic'n'Mix. I guess Wilco took over Woolies' mantle in the UK. Jumbo just looked at that model, looked at Ikea, and decided to do a bit of a merge.

Nowadays I try not to go into Jumbo, I wait outside with our dog. But I have in the store in the past, and they do have some good things in there at good prices. I don't like having to go all around the stores two floors to get to the checkout. And there used to be quite long queues to pay ..
Sports Direct was mentioned earlier and although I do buy footwear there, it is a pain having to go to the farthest point from the exit to pay..

I’ve never understood why they have their till right at the back of the shop. It’s so hard to get through to it as well with the rails packed so close together. Not designed for a pleasant shopping experience.

Your really are joking, I refuse to go in, I'd rather do people watching on the benches outside, and that goes for Tiger also.

I would guess it so that you see as much of the shop as possible, and possibly pick up items that you wouldn't otherwise have bought.

In theory.... maybe... In Practise,, NO.. It is a pain having to walk to the back of the shop.
I cannot think of anther 'checkout' not near the exit doorway

Supermarkets are usually laid out with the checkouts near the exit doorway..

Having to walk through the store to pay works in some stores but why, when I’m trying to buy a pair of ladies trainers from upstairs, would I be tempted to buy something in the men’s department on the ground floor.
It’s a major hassle especially when I’ve already walked the length & breadth to find someone to serve me. Saying that I’ve always found the staff very helpful but there just aren’t enough of them.

Shame about the gaps. The trick at our local Ikea back in the UK was to go in through the exit, stride purposefully through the tills and then use the shortcuts to get to where we wanted, in and out in no time. Can’t say i miss the ‘retail park experience’ though. Apart from Costco, now there’s a place!
