The TUI Airline has been condemned for providing children with "deeply sexist" stickers on one of its Paphos-Bristol flights....

Read the article and chat about it below...

Reading this, the stickers themselves weren't deeply offensive. The women handing them out were the ones being "deeply offensive" by handing all the pilot stickers to boys.

It’s true that there are a number of female pilots throughout both the civilian and military aircrew. But women are likely to be a minority in the overall totals of pilots.Had the TUI cabin crew given out pilot stickers to girls , what ratio of the total number should have been given to them? Would parents of other children who didn’t get them complain of favouritism?
The whole thing was probably just a fun way of entertaining a number of kids at the end of a 4.5hr flight!
It should be treated like this,
Dee

It seems nowadays it takes only one complaint for it to go viral all I can say is the woman complainant needs to get a life. the badge in itself is not sexist in any way only the complainants mind.

The notion of giving out pilot badges to boys and steward badges to girls is sexist. No two ways about it. Surely the easiest thing to do in future is to show both badges to kids and let them pick their own?

Why shouldn't the lady complain about something like this? It is August, and there is very little real news, so it is hardly her fault if it has gone viral. She had a valid complaint though.

Not only has the complainant nothing better to do, apparently the same could be said of the contributors to this thread! :-)

It isn't even a storm in a teacup. It was a valid thing to complain about, but it shouldn't have made the news like it did. However, there is only a certain amount of time I can post "Gosh it's hot again" news articles.

And the article didn't mention "deeply offensive". I used that phrase by mistake. I thought I was quoting them but I should have said "Deeply sexist".

God why did you not make it simple :? At any time it seems we can cause offence to those who believe in Islam, Catholicism, Hinduism, Agnosticism, Buddhism, Atheism, Anglicanism, Sikhism, Seventh-Day Adventists, Latter Day Saint Movement, Judaism

Sorry, but landfilling is more than a very serious subject. I suggest that you watch the programme before you comment.

I cannot remember who coined up the word snowflake but I hate it. Perhaps some Paphos Life members will have more interesting stories to tell but
from my limited experience in music we have taken a number of students to level 8. That takes some pretty serious work

Boys for captains, girls for cabin crew. It's just demonstrates how we think about expectations of girls vs boys if they were handed out as reported. I'm really not a pc nut in any way but do just find this a bit sad and rather a shame. Not anyone's fault - we need to try to change the mindset of some in this 'ol progressive world of ours.
