A 21-year-old British tourist is in critical condition in hospital in Cyprus, after allegedly being beaten up by a gang of his fellow countrymen.
The unnamed man had reportedly been attacked by a gang of 12 British tourists in the popular party resort in Ayia Napa, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

You can understand why the Mayor want's to ban Stag do's etc.
Bad enough in their own city/town but to happen when on holiday it's so sad.
Full details not known of course but if true it was 12 to one. Just feel so sorry for the young lad and his family

I'd be heartbroken if it was my son.

I don't understand any of that

Paul & Lesley was getting indignant that Cypriot papers weren't covering the story, and you pointed out that they were. I likened their indignation to a bubble of outrage, which you were bursting with your comment stating that Cypriot papers were actually covering the story.

And sadly this ‘laddish’ behavour whilst holiday here in Cyprus isn’t good publicity for us and reflects badly on Brits in general and particularly those of us who live here..
.
I feel sorry for the lad who was beaten up, but don’t know what incident led up to it.

I too feel sorry for the holiday maker who was beaten up by other holidaymakers according to the report.
But I can't just see how it reflects badly on the Brits that live here..

Is there not a yobbish climate of violence amongst certain types of British low-life? It is not new, but it may be on the increase. Allegedly, even a cricketer may have contributed to this climate; gone are the days when cricket was a gentleman's game

How can you only get 18 months for killing somebody?
But violence is nothing new. What about all the football violence we got back in the 70s, 80s and 90s?

In the same way, I guess, that law abiding Muslims in the UK are tarred with the same brush as the terrorists.

Razor gangs of the 20s and 30s, Teddy boys of the 50s, Mods and Rockers of the 60s, skinheads etc etc

The word 'YOBBISH' to me feels like they are being let off lightly, and that they are all young!
Sorry but there are more words to use than this, you just cant get away with using them.
Keeping it mildly the low life worthless scum on the planet come in all shapes/sizes/age, this includes the Brits and the older ex pat who live in Cyprus and those that come out on holiday, yes there are lots of expat brits living in Cyprus no better than the YOB'S.
In the case of the young boy having the life nearly beaten out of him by 12 super Scum just shows that they all find it the norm to do, nothing will ever change while the powers that be never get super tough and give them all a nice hard labour sentence when/if they ever get caught for what they do.
Feel sorry for the boy who had this happen to him for whatever reason it did and hope he pulls through.

A few years after arriving here my son was taking part in his local (Cypriot) school play. It was about people from around the world. The English children in the class got to represent the UK. Their part was to wear football shirts, hold cans of drink and stagger about. I kid you not and that probably says something about how Brits are perceived.

Outdoor bowling still demands great respect from the way they dress to their manners. I think both MM & Trev would agree but if not, next time I'm in CY I will try to beat the living shits out them but in a very gentlemanly way

And as parents you didn't object! Sorry but you should have been all over that one! It's a pity the Cypriots can't control their own football hooligan problem!
Why are you so quick to assume I didn't? And I don't believe it was anything at all to do with football hooliganism.

I am sorry Dominic, but that's not a fair comment...and reflects an opinion of a minority...not a majority...and only serves to perpetuate hatred.
What is not fair about my comment? I am not saying that Muslims SHOULD be tarred with the same brush as terrorists, I am saying that they are.

Those of us who have travelled and worked extensively in and around the Middle East would strongly disagree with your comment Dom. I have a few Muslim friends and they are Anti Terrorists.
I think you have misunderstood my comment. I am not saying that Muslims are pro terrorists in the UK. I am saying they get blamed every time a terror act happens.
The Muslim Council of Britain publish condemnation after condemnation whenever such acts occur, yet you still get lots of comments in social media saying that ordinary muslims don't condemn the acts. They do, just as ordinary Irish people I knew living in the UK during the troubles condemned the IRA.
