The weather will be slightly hotter than Thursday in Cyprus, but for once it may be even warmer in the UK, where forecasters predict it may be the hottest day of the year, at least in the east of the country....

The big issue in the UK will be the lack of aircon.

It's not an issue at all. We're loving the warmer temperatures, no complaints. Still got a duvet and a throw on the bed but all the windows are open. It was 20 degrees Celsius outside when I went to bed just after midnight last night and dropped through the night.
Sunny this morning but breezy in the garden right now and back to 20 degrees.
As soon as we get these promised thunderstorms no doubt we will be complaining about flooding....
Other than that, we have a hosepipe ban in place from 5th August here in the north west.

It was certainly an issue at my parents house when we stayed there a couple of weeks ago, and in Cornwall. It was very difficult getting to sleep.

We would have killed for 20 degrees night time temperatures in Cyprus... Although we loved our rented house, a flat roof bungalow was never ideal in summer or winter.

Nearly 1 pm here now and it's very hot, but with all the fuss anyone would think it's a major disaster.
The nanny state is in full flow with warnings of dire consequences of the heat. We had it in '76 and loved it, common sense came into play, and no-one I knew was damaged by it. How times change.

I’m in Cheltenham. It’s very hot here, but it cools off well at night. My flat has windows on 3 sides, so there is a good flow through of air. I have electric fans which I use if nec. Even at mid day, I don’t need the fan. The AC in my car is pleasant. But the main problem here is lack of rain everything in the gardens, parks etc is parched and brown. Trees are shedding their leaves..There’s talk of a hose pipe ban if weather continues. Humidity is very low so one has to keep drinking fluids. Rain and storms are forecast with cooler weather which will be nice!

Actually, the year on year UK death rate was up by 20% during that drought.

Amazing how people in the Middle East, Far East and Africa cope with temperatures well in excess of 40C
We coped well enough in Luxor and Aswan just recently.... but then we always did. We had 47C one day in Aswan. We always found that once a temperature reaches a certain stage, your body doesn't seem to get any worse for it. But you do have to keep on top of the water intake. We were drinking it in but it wasn't coming out the other end!
