Why not? If you don't like it, you don't have to respond.

Agree with Hudswell, in that views are welcome from all sides in order to have a healthy debate, but I also only compare like for like in Cyprus and during the last couple of years have seen many changes and having the ostrich syndrome will not make them go away.

The lack of policing in the UK is one reason for increased crime. They tell us there are more police on the streets, but it's just not true.
One fair sized town near to me has one part time police officer. Over the hill in Malvern, one lady I spoke to recently said that their station is now unmanned. Ridiculous, it's obvious crime will increase if we have no police, and every crook knows it.

Nobody was saying that there was no crime in Cyprus. They were saying it is a lot worse in the UK. And it is.

Rocket science!!! If the punishment for crime was so severe there would be less crime.
A story my grandfather told me (he lived well into his ninety,s) about a lad he used to know in the late eighteen hundreds who was what you would describe these days as a petty criminal. He came before the magistrate,s for his latest misdeed and was told that enough was enough and he got six strokes of the birch...……..Grandad says that was the last time he found himself in trouble and lead a good life there after...…...Sorry if there are any snowflakes reading this.

How true, when I was a child a murder was so unusual that made headlines for weeks, now it's so common it's not worth a mention. Could that have something to do with abolishment of the death penalty I wonder.

I think the figures quoted apply to England and Wales. Recorded crime in Scotland is at its lowest level for 40 years.

You are correct, the lowest since 1974 which is excellent. Sadly drug issues are on the increase. A problem Scotland needs to get a grip with.
