Good Morning, traveling to the UK next week and want to take some very fragile wine glasses back with me in hand luggage, mailed Hermes but was fobbed off, has anyone done the same and was it ok with security, any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards
Barry

I would think they will be confiscated for sure.

I took some last year with no trouble. I wrapped them in bubble wrap & put them in a box.

You surprise me. Considering they confiscate (quite rightly) scissors and screwdrivers, I would have thought a glass would be a definite no-no.

I think is sometime depends on the individual inspecting cases.
18 months ago Hilary brought a food blender chopping blade in her hand luggage.
They did stop her and inspect it.. it was covered in cardboard.. and then let her through with it

Our daughter nearly had a set of felt pens confiscated, because of the quantity of ink that was present in the pens. Each pen may have had only 5 ml of ink in it, but twenty pens...
Fortunately they let her keep the pens, once my wife and she had been scanned.

Swiss Air kept on selling Swiss Army pocket knifes on board for a while after they were banned from hand luggage (or Swiss men's trousers - as a real Swiss you cannot leave the house w/o your Swiss Army knife

)... and whilst economy class passengers got plastic cutlery first class was continued to be served with proper steel ones. There was indeed hardly any consistency in how the new rules were applied...

I travelled back to the UK from Paphos with 6 wine glasses in my hand luggage. They were still in the cardboard packaging they came in. No problems at all at the airport.

Morning, Thanks for the replies, I would have been sceptical about carrying glass in hand luggage but for a recent experience, I emailed Manchester airport to ask if I could carry a quantity of LED light bulbs in my hand luggage, they replied that it was ok, I printed off my question and the response and went through security without any problem or question, both are glass but would still like and official ok for glasses from Paphos.
Best Wishes to all

Hi, just to post a conclusion to my post, went through security at Paphos Airport last night with 24 delicate wine glasses in my hand luggage, the chap looking at the screen shot of my case did a double take, spoke with a colleague and then shrugged his shoulders and that was that, no problem, must admit I wasn't confident there wouldn't be an issue but it would seem it's ok.
