My wife will be 70 next year , has a Cyprus driving licence , I know she will need a medical form / eye test .

My question is can you apply for it about a month before the actual birthday ?

When you say about a month. I believe that One Month before is the limit.
But do check at wherever you go to, because I applied and got a licence for 3 weeks and then had to do it all over again :-(

I am in the process of renewing my licence,I was told that I could renew it up to 60 days before it expires. Took all forms to citizens centre on Monday 9th, my birthday is July 25th. I was issued with a temporary licence for 30 days by which time my new one should have arrived, but the new licence will be dated from the 10th so effectivley losing two weeks, but ha ho it's free over 70 so who cares really.

This is why it is better to ask at where ever you are applying

I just wanted to update this post. I had a medical on Monday the 6th of August and went the same day to the Citizens advice centre to apply for a new (over 70's ) licence. I was told that I could only apply 15 days before my old one expired...
So today I have been again with my medical form, my yellow slip, and my old licence.
All went OK and I have been granted a new licence for another 3 years.. However it runs, not from the expiry date of my present licence but from the date the doctor signed the certificate.... I am not bothered about losing a few days, but I am pleased that I have another 3 year one, as I had heard that they were now issuing for just one year ...

The doctor did ask me if I wanted him to sign for a 3 year one, and of course I answered Yes.. I still thought that I was only allowed to have a 1 year one as I am almost 76.

Wow, that is another reason Not to go there and to go and see a private GP. I did have to pay €50 but that is not bad spread over 3 years.. I too am 76 this month and I have a 3 year temporary licence in my possession until the plastic card is ready for collection.

I read some time ago, maybe on this site that the hospital doctor refused to give a medical note to an over 80 year old person because of there age, not because they were unfit to drive. I would avoid the general for this reason.
This is the post....

Although it is little money at the General either €3 or €6 I too would avoid the General. My main reason being the delay in seeing doctors there.
