Thrips on small ficus tree

I have a small ficus tree in a large pot on the front patio that is covered with tiny white flies. I first noticed them when the leaves started to turn yellow. Apart from this the tree is healthy. Someone told me that it could be a thrip infestation. Has anyone had a similar problem and, if so, managed to get rid of them?
Thanks

The washing up liquid certainly works with blackfly, so I would try it with the ficus tree

A small amount of paraffin oil (99%, Sun Oil p.e. ) mixed with water (15 ml/l) and sprayed on the leaves will kill most of the pests and is not affecting the "good insects". Only plants with delicate leaves don't like that treatment. It is allowed in organic farming as well....

I confirm, it works and is cheaper indeed.
