What kind of snakes were noticed. Black snakes are absolutely no problem. They get rid of a.o. vipers, rats, mice etc. (like other snakes do). Apart from that I do not think there is such a thing as 100% snake proof fencing.

Probably not 100% but a least a deterant!

A metre of sharp gravel will deter snakes.

Might be in theory! I had several times in the past vipers in my pool skimmers, even having more than 3 m wide, sharp gravel all around the pool area...

Someone once told me that planting Rosemary would deter them I’ve no idea could be just an “Old wife’s “ tale 🤨

As far as I know is that Rosemary would deter cats. As I have ca 20m2 growing in my garden it did no help in case of the vipers... but after I put a layer of cut Rosemary branches on the path where the cats normally enter my place they did not walk over it... (but 5 meters next to it  )

One of my cat's favourite sitting spots was right next to a prostrate rosemary, overlooking the BBQ area - he likes to see what's going on and usually managed to scrounge some tidbits from a BBQ. 😀
