I cannot recall ever singing verse 3 as a child or indeed as a teacher when we used to sing old fashioned hymns.

We did at the schools and churches I attended. That's how I knew where the line came from.

Wash your ears otherwise cauliflowers will grow out of them. Don't do as I do, do as I say.
Definitely clean underwear every day in case you have an accident and are taken to hospital - something I adhere to now!

Must be international, as my mother said the same. Also about the underwear, washing behind the ears etc.
