TLC Private School in Paphos has acquired the Baccarat Estate on the Ayios Georgios road which includes a stately mansion and its four adjacent properties set in large grounds with lots of natural grass and shade – entirely befitting of a high quality private school.

This exciting development will enable the school to accommodate its rapidly increasing student roll. The expansion of the school will include significant improvements in specialist facilities, including the establishment of faculties for languages, sciences and mathematics, sport, technology and the arts.

The new site also allows the school to increase its capacity in a phased programme from September 2018 until the site if fully functional in September 2019.

The directors are committed to providing inclusive and accessible education in a family-orientated environment where every child matters. The opportunity to base the school in a number of houses will help retain the small, intimate feel with class sizes remaining as they are now.

David Lewis, Principal at TLC said, “We are very fortunate to be able to acquire such prestigious premises, close to our current site. Being able to add accommodation so close to our current base is an opportunity we didn’t think we’d ever get. It enables us to welcome more students to our school and offer them the high quality, caring education that has become the trademark of TLC Private School. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunities that this development will offer us. I look forward to working with the directors and updating parents and students on the future of a school which has firmly established itself as a provider of quality education in the Paphos region.”

As a regular traveller between Paphos and Coral Bay / Agios Georgios in the early 'naugties' (2000 on), I was always fascinated by the progress made in the construction of this magnificent palace, with it's four detached houses in the front garden...

At the time, this extravagent development was locally attributed to being the owner of Philipos Supermarket in Pegia. No idea if this was true, or not. Later, I was intrigued by the new Pegia bypass road under construction. In June 04, I parked up on the main Coral Bay to AG road, and walked the length of the new bypass road as far as I thought was safe.

High up, I got past this section okay, after a friendly wave from the digger operator to allow me through.

But half a mile further up, I reached an area where they were literally blasting the hillside out with explosives. It was too treacherous to cross, so I decided to reverse the walk back down to where I'd parked the trusty old Toyota twin cab.

At the start and finish of this walk, I distinctly remember how close the new road was to the rear of the new mansion (then finished). And thinking "Oh dear, the mansion owner won't be happy about this new road, with heavy trucks climbing uphill just metres away from his rear boundary"...

Does anyone know what TLC paid for this classic piece of real estate, I wonder?

Cheers- AL :)
