Paphos Life

All of that 3-meter deep seaweed has at last been removed and dumped with last years, so gone until next winters storms, they have even shored up the footpath that was being eroded, the beach is back. It is never going to be golden sands type beach but the locals from Pafos do use this area often. (yesterday AM phone shot)

Ha ha Jim, after all those years you still don't know the name of the village......

Whats in a name? Gerouskipou, Yerouskipou, Geroskipou, or just about any other similar name, and it is not a village Louise as you know it is a district of Pafos town or city.


The point is the beach is clear of that awful smelly seaweed, for now at least. whatever you wish to call that beach!!

"yeros" ( holy) and "kipou" ( garden) — means "holy garden". Ancient pilgrims from Nea Paphos passed through Yeroskipou before reaching the temple of Aphrodite at Kouklia. Nothing to do with the "holly" (plant)

Quite a few people seem to think Lempa and Emba are the same place, and you can understand why.

The beach does now look better. Some new sand has been put down, the beach rakes and thankfully the smelly seaweed has been cleared.
However, the seaweed is still there at the beach next to Penelope's Church which must be awful for hotel guests, as one of the dining areas is just metres away from it.

The new tavernas on Gerryskipou (scouse spelling) beach are nowhere near completion.It was reported in the local press that they would be ready for May.
However, the toilets are a huge improvement on what was there previously.
Both of these photos,(mobile phone shots, so not high quality) where taken on 8th May.

Sunbeds were being put out yesterday morning.

This would be the new Riccos cafe? John be careful riding that bike near the dumping ground, hate to see you fall in.

Lemba and Emba are of course different in many ways, a road separates the two areas, one Emba is a large urban development around a small village, while Lemba is a Refugee village that was once Turkish, now given over to refugees from the 1974 war, also you cannot buy property (mostly) in Lemba as the area regarding land is not Greek Cypriot, but Greek Cypriots were given this land to build on, as our family has. Title deeds will not be available at any time. Just for info.

Glad we bought in beautiful Pegeia and have the fabulous beaches at Coral bay close by.

We even have our own shipwreck nearby.

Alan Coral Bay is about my closest sandy beach, but I still prefer the area to the east, why? well, the lack of people to be honest, Bonamare knocks Coral Bay outa sight, and Peyia beautiful?, come on.

And you can keep that shiprust!

P.S Alan do you actually sit on the sand, I do not know many ex-pats who do...

Our favourite beach now is Ladies Mile. Rosemary loves swimming in the sea, so we do go regularly to the beach. If it was me, I would be like Jim and not goto a beach. However, it seems to do her joint pain (can't spell rhematism) some good.

For some reason, the water at Gerryskipou Beach feels much colder than other beaches.

I have been going early for my walks and it is amazing the number of locals in the sea at 6am, both at the Municipal Beach and the harbour.

Pissouri has the coldest beach, I think.

It is!! freezing even in high summer, I was told it is because of it's underlying rocks, all I can say it's cold and look out for Stone Fish, nasty!

Went for my walk today late afternoon/early evening. A lot of sand has been put on the beach with, as Ancient History said, the addition of sunbeds near to the new toilet block.
Riccos's old toilets are still there. Do not know when they were last used but they smell.
Quite a few people on the beach and in the water especially as it was late afternoon. Also a few in Riccos enjoying a beer.

Nice shots young man, reminds me why we all came to live here, near the sea, I will be down there this morning I will take a look at those improvements.

Photos taken with a camera I can put in my pocket when walking. One of our daughters castoffs, a Nikon Coolpix 53200. Not the best quality and screen not very bright and very difficult to see in bright sunlight, even with screen brightness on max. However handy for anything interesting I may spot.
Jim, you are right about why we came to live in Cyprus. In North Wales we live near the sea and I love walking along the coast. Last year I did the Wales Coast Path from Chester to Menai Bridge, Anglesey, and then on to Beaumaris. This summer I hope to walk around Anglesey.
I walk the coast path here regularly, and now want to find out if I can walk along the coast, past the airport fence and find a way through to Timi Beach and then on to Mandria. Last time I tried, one of the farmers had blocked off part of the path with a gate and barbed wire, to keep his horses in a field. That is something I will do when the weather is cooler. I have found a cycling route from our village, Anarita, to Riccos Beach where I am only on the airport road for 100 metres and most of the route is farmtracks.

I only use my Samsung phone now for photos, more than adequate for using on web-based forums especially in HD mode, I have a Canon SLR Digital I never use, too heavy and clumsy now. I always have a phone with me.

The upgrades to this area will include many cafes, Bars and a long paved walkway from one end to-the-other, Hope I am here to see it finished.
