Lidl this week: wireless cooking thermometer..

Cooking everyday at home except Saturdays, I thought the offer this week at Lidl's for an wireless cooking thermometer is exactly what I needed.
For a surprising low price of 12.99 Euro you get quite a lot. On the display you can choose to measure: beef, lamb, pork, veal, turkey, chicken, burger, fish. When you reach the cooking level: well, med-well, medium, m-rare, rare, an alarm signal will appear in order to stop cooking. I used it for fish yesterday and my cod was cooked to perfection...

Believe it or not if you want to spend some money you can get blue tooth ones which go straight to your phone.
Very clever, But not sure if that one will catch on ??
They usually work on a BBQ & normal oven.

Interesting Max. Wouldn't have given this item a second glance were it not for your post. Have asked my daughter to grab me one. Is this just for use with a BBQ...or an indoor oven as well? Difficult to tell from the blurb.
As the transmitter unit is made from plastic you have to be careful with open fire or extended heat. But the sensor needle, plugged into this transmitter is stainless steel and also the cable is metal and ca 1 m long. I used it for frying my cod in a pan, and the transmitter unit, which has magnets, on top of my extractor hood. Even when the instruction says not to use it in a microwave or closed oven I would try it, just leaving the plastic transmitter unit outside the oven. Perhaps if I close the door and crimp the cable it has a problem, I will see. I am going to buy some more for future presents, as it is sometimes not easy to have new ideas.

but I think I'll give this one a miss, can't say I can ever recall needing one

My garage cupboards are full of Lidl "one day that'll come in useful" gadgets.
And one day they usually do
Why, only last week I had need of a glue gun kit that I bought from Lidl a year or two back. The device for punching holes into leather belts has seen the light of day too. And spanner and drill sets get used all the time.
I'm fairly certain they have glue guns at the moment, too.
I bought some barbeque tools there myself today.

I'm just waiting for them to bring out a reasonably priced Sous Vide kit, then I will be sorely tempted
Nice article about Sous vide cooking with many aspects why I don't want one unit. Concerned also about more plastic involved, and this vacuum bags have to be special ones not releasing toxics when in contact with the food.. And where to buy that fresh food (specially fish) in Cyprus to be on the safe side, cooking with this low temperature method.
