Low-cost wine

Lidl are selling 3 litre cubitainers of South African Pinotage/Cabernet Sauvignon for less than €8. Don't expect a Chambolle-Musigny for that price, but it is an honest vin ordinaire, smooth and easy on the palate, without pretence. It is quite alcoholic at 14.5%. We got 16 generous glasses out of a box at less than 50 cents a go.

Papatoniou have been selling 3 litre 1 +1, for 11.99. Red white and Rose. Quite palatable.

When I have previously bought wine from Lidl’s it has always been palatable. I prefer their Chilean wines, though their other wines are usually very good value for money too.

Thanks Devil for that info.
We have enjoyed some palatable wines from Lidl in the past. We like their 1.5 litre cartons of Italian Rose but not the dry white, preferring, as Trev, the Keo 1 litre cartons, or, even better, the SODAP.
We even treated ourselves to the Lidl Prosecco at Christmas and were pleasantly surprised as to it's quality.

Hudswell wrote: Thu Apr 26, 2018 8:37 pm I honestly don't think you can beat the Lidl wines for VFM, the Italian Pinot Grigio is outstanding at less than €3 and the Australian Shiraz a bargain....the Cypriot Wines are not really to my taste and I tend to buy those from the producer...Kolios is a star but like most Cyoriot wines a bit pricey....but I must look at the 3 litre boxes...sounds good, cheers Devil.
Have to say Kolios dry white available from the butchery in town is very good. 10 Litre box for 25e.

Jim.

Have to agree with Poolriver, Kolios dry white from the butchers in the 10l box is one of the best. 8-)

Trev- where did your avatar vanish to? I like the sound of that 1l carton of Keo Red from Paps. Since it's perfect at room temperature, I can enjoy a glass of it out on my balcony (with a couple of roll-ups), then go down for evening dinner. Then a couple of more glasses back in my room, a few more ciggies, watch a bit of BBC World on sat tv, or crosswords, then precious bed...

How much does this cost in Paps, please? I have a feeling that one carton would probably do me nicely for two days.

Cheers- AL :)

I'm not sure I had an avatar on here Al.. But the 1 Litre boxes of Keo wine are around €1-50. It is a good everyday wine.. I know a restaurant in Kathikas that does, or did, use it as their 'house wine'.

I think the chippie in Mandria use it as their house wine. Al, that is just what I would have done before my op.

Paps Chlorakas only has the SWEET RED - are the others available in other sores does anyone know?

:?:
We shop in the town Paps. They had plenty of all 3 types. The white is Sauvigon Blanc.
