Evening fast food advice please

Thought I'd pose this question in General (rather than Restaurants), as it's not the latter I'm really looking for.

Let's say I am booked at the Almyra for 14 nights on Full Board, but have the option to add the 3rd week for FREE on a B&B basis.

Okay, in the third week, I can pig out a bit more at breakfast, meaning I can easily skip lunch each day. But come evening, I'll still want a snack of some sort (rather than a full-blown 3 course restaurant meal).

Does anyone have any recommendations please for takeaway / sit in outlets along Bar St (or adjacent) for my favourite evening grub? Thinking of Beefburgers, Fish 'n Chips, Gyros (pitta kebabs), Pizza, Pasta, Curry, Halloumi Lounza salad rolls, stuff like that? (Not all on the same night, LOL!)

Your input will be very much appreciated, thanks! Then I can start compiling a 7 day wish list to take with me..

Are 'The Point' and 'Out of Africa' still along there? If so, that gives me a couple of good starting points, both used in many of my good old days!

Cheers- AL :)

For the last 20+ years we've been going to Stavros - he's opposite the entrance to the Papantoniou car park.

Excellent food - steaks, fish, burgers etc

Which Paps, J B? The one near the harbour (Woolworths St) or the one up above the Old Town?

If it's the lower one, it sounds like I could be in Stavros for seven nights running!

Thanks- AL :?

Talking of Paps as an aside, what do they charge for a 1l bottle of Keo VSOP Brandy, currently, please?

It was €16-00 at PFO Duty Free when I last flew out on 1st March this year. I've heard stories that items like spirits, ciggies, and baccy are often much cheaper in town than at the airport...

If you want spirits AL, it's cheaper to go to one of the drinks stores? There is one on the same side of the road as the harbour Paps & he'll change money as well!

Al what about Pinguino cafe bar on the front great snacks good prices and not sure if they still have it a laptop to use for customers free of charge.
Fish and chips. Moulia which is where the old Macci D's was. Both are very reasonable and you get a good view thrown in.

Al, if you cross the road from the Almyra, there are, literally, dozens of good places to eat. Cyprus tavernas, indian style, burger bars, the lot.

Viva Cyprus and Namaste are very good. First and Last for "English" style. Too many to name. Little place sandwiched between Friends and First n Last called Christos if you fancy a good steak or pork chop. Moonlight of course.

Seriously, you need go no further afield.

I'd go to the Annabelle rather than the Almyra ;-)
We felt the Almyra was too white and rather clinical - the Annabelle more "holiday" feel and inviting....

There's loads of choice for food and The Curry House is just across the road at the top end of Bar Street if you're looking for a decent curry.

Thanks for that, PhotoLady. But Almyra is booked, so cast in stone... However, it is a sister hotel to the Annabelle next door (both 5*) and for me, the Almyra has the advantage of being at the top of Poseidonos hill, meaning that evening walks out to Bar St are relatively flat and level.

I remember when it used to be the Paphos Beach Hotel (though never stayed there). Very popular, with repeat guests each year. After the refurb into the Almyra, I do recall it gaining a bit of a reputation for becoming a yuppy hotel only. Seems they have shaken that concept off now, after a decade or more...

Thanks all for your input and help, folks! I'd forgotten about Viva Cyprus (over the road), and Stavros, Moulias (down the hill). Just hope that my weekly gym sessions starting early May here will re-energize my calf and thigh muscles to the extent that I can actually walk back up the hill from the harbour area to the hotel!

Christos sounds very interesting, William, especially as I love a Cypriot pork chop and side salad! But how do you mean "Moonlight of course"? Is it outside on the pavement, with no cover from occasional rain?

And Namaste (Indian street food) next door to the Nereus Hotel I definately must try, yum yum!

Moonlight cafe is hard to describe!!

It is located on the opposite side of the open space from Friends bar. Over to the right and in the corner. Get in early, it gets very busy.

Don't expect anything posh but the food and service is excellent.

Christos and Mary and Christos' mum serve first class Cypriot food. Just brought out a new menu. But if you fancy anything off menu or mix n match just ask.

Thanks, Yioula! With my new weekly or bi-weekly gym classes and swimming sessions in place for the next 9 months, I'm really hoping to be able to jog up the hill from the harbour and back to the Almyra, then sit down, have a ciggie, and take photos of the amazing sunsets...

I have a secret personal training coach here on PL, who is giving me lots of advice (from personal experience) and encouragement, via PMs. This is really geeing me up for a regular fitness regime!

So the weekly Gym classes for 9 months, may now be every two weeks... :-) :-)
With your particular breathing complaint would it not be better to give up the Smoking?

Trev- the young lady ambulance driver who transported me to and from the hospital for an ultrasound scan last Saturday advised me that giving up smoking at this stage in my life would probably do me more harm than good...

I asked her if the same analogy also applied to Whisky and Brandy? Didn't get a reply...
