Paphos Life

Our 4 week holiday here in Cyprus is coming to an end. However, we will be back at the beginning of May for 6 weeks holiday. Life is hard.
Had a lovely time and visited a few places we have not been to for some time.
We had a week of dust when we first arrived. We have seen it worse and it did not affect my sinus's or breathing, unlike the high pollen count at present. It did not stop me from my daily walks.
Even when the dust had cleared, it was still stormy, but invigorating. Also quite warm. I was walking with just a vest and tshirt and a week later with just a tshirt.
Some of the signs and notices displayed in Cyprus amuse me. This one did. I wonder if I am an unnecessary person. Once, in Lefkara we saw a menu that had two sets of prices for both food and drink. One list for without music and one list with music.
On Friday 30th March, we visited Limassol, as Rachel had arrived on the Tuesday. She had not been to the Marina and was suitably impressed. All the berths were full and there are now people living in the apartments there. I fact, we saw lots of children of school age returning home from the many private schools in Limassol.
To all those who doubted it would be viable, visit now. We were impressed. However, one thing they do need to do is to provide proper seating other than walls to perch on. We have disabled visitors who are able to walk but need to sit down frequently and there is nowhere to sit, other than eateries.

My mooring is very convenient to my luxury apartment. However, I think I would rather live in Anarita.

From the Marina, we called in at My Mall, as Sports Direct had 20% off everything. I am now stocked up with t shirts for life. Rachel got some more clothes for here. It is cheaper to buy what she needs than to pay for a case on easyjet.
We then went down to Ladies Mile, to see if the salt lake was crossable and if the tavernas were open.
On my walks along the coastal path, I have carried a pocket camera with me, just in case I spotted something interesting. This eagret was spotted near Stavros's Kiosk, near the Imperial Hotel. I saw one in February near Geroskipou Beach.

Last week we also visited Nicosia. It had been at least five years since our last visit to Ledra Street. We must have a short break there as we would like to see things in more detail than just on a day visit.

All the shops on Ledra Street were open and occupied. There are lots of interesting side streets as well with hidden tavernas and coffee shops. Streets which were derelict last time we visited are now thriving.
One thing we did notice was how competitive the prices for food and drink were on the Greek Cypriot side of the crossing. Last time we visited, lots of business people were crossing to have there lunch. Almost every eatery had signs of special offers and only tourists and a few shoppers were crossing.

We were very impressed with Ledra Street and the city did seem to be buzzing with the coffee shops full.

We also enjoyed a trip to Latchi Harbour.
Can anyone tell me anything about the history of these two boats, which had police confiscation notices on them.
We also enjoyed a day at Ladies Mile which I posted about in another thread. The sea was cool, but swimmable in and we were in the water for some time. In all, I would say this has been one of the best Easter Holidays we have had for weather, certainly better than last year when we still had our gas fire on.

Thank you for all those "Thank yous"

Rachel and her friend went home on Saturday night. On Friday we went to Les Ami and enjoyed a lovely set meal. Since Flambe closed it has become one of our favourite restaurants.

I walked the coast path both on Easter Sunday and Monday. It was lovely seeing the path so busy and the hotels were all making an effort to entertain their clients with Easter games and bqs. It brought back memories of when we used to stay at the Imperial and Rachel used to take part in the Easter games. They used to put on a free coach for the Midnight Service at the church in Geroskipou followed by traditional soup at the hotel. One of the hotels were roasting a lamb on a bq.
I feel sorry for the people who bought the sunbed concessions here, as the beach has not yet been cleared by the municipality and is still full of rotting seaweed. These sunbeds arrived a few days ago and the concession holders cleared the seaweed from where the sunbeds are. They also raked in sand. I have not seen one person on these sun beds Both on Easter Sunday and Monday the harbour areas were extremely busy. Lovely to see so many people about enjoying themselves.

We fly back tonight after four weeks here in Cyprus. I have not been out on my bike as the coastal path has been a bit to busy for cyclists. However, when we come back in four weeks, I intend to do some early morning bike rides down to the coast.
We have had a lovely holiday here in Anarita and now look forward to another holiday at our home in North Wales. How did I ever find the time to work?
