Hi, any ideas where I can get some new whell trims for my Vauxhall Astra? One of the front ones must have cracked and fallen off as it's now missing!

When you source your new new set of four Astra wheel trims, usually around £20, then assembled them with the special spring wire locating ring, it's a good idea to think about preserving them for the future.

Buy a bag of 12" white nylon tie wraps from an auto electrician shop. Also a small pair of side snips from a DIY store. Once you've banged the new hub caps into place (ensuring correct access to the tyre valve), then fix each cap into place with two tie wraps, opposite each other.

You do this by threading the tie wrap behind the holes in the steel wheel, then pulling it tight to pull the cap in. Snip the protruding tie wrap excess off with the side snips. Keep the rest of the tie wraps AND the snips in the boot, in case you need to take a wheel off!

This simple strategy offers two benefits:

1) It will stop hubcaps flying off when the wheel is badly 'kerbed'
and
2) it will deter casual lowlife hubcap thieves from nicking them!

AL ;)

Buy a set of alloy wheels, these plastic nasties fool nobody and look awful, pop into Costas tyre shop he often has refurbished pre-owned alloys and they are cheap too. :)
