According to this link, we have had 18 dust alert days so far this year:

http://www.airquality.dli.mlsi.gov.cy/site/news

For the same period last year, we only had 9.The year before that, 8.

Does anybody know of any sites that have data going further back? The information seems to dry up in May 2015.

I am just curious.

Thanks Dominic, afraid I do not know of any site, but my feeling is that this year is the worse experienced in the last 15 years.
Totally unscientific I know, but I for one would be very concerned were this years levels an annual event.

I am healthy and fit, but the effects of the dust this year on my lungs, constant coughing, (without a cold) and a horrible thick phlegm. You can taste this dust.

Depending on the jet streams, this red gritty Saharan sand often dumps into northern Europe (including UK) and as far away as the US and Canada to the west!

Flew out of Paphos this afternoon.

Once we were up, we could see a huge red cloud of dust covering the entire island.
