Euro-Africa pipeline

So Cyprus has signed an agreement to link up the pipelines to Egypt, Israel and Europe via Crete and Greece.
Why is it they are going the long way round to get to Europe when if they settled with there countrymen in the TRNC they would have a much shorter pipeline through Turkey to Europe. It makes one wonder do they ever want a settlement to make Cyprus one country again?

Even if Cyprus was re-united, why on Earth do you think they would trust Turkey? Perhaps you should wonder about that?

Yes it would make you wonder about Turkey but don't forget it all comes down to economics and if settlement came then Turkey might soften their attitude a bit.

It doesn't all come down to economics. If it were that simple Cyprus would have been reunited decades ago.

No its all very political and verging on historical and at times histrionic reactions.
Mike is right, the pipeline going through the TRNC to join up with the main pipeline in Turkey would have been the cheapest and quickest solution.
But there are quite a few blinkered people around the island who won’t wake up and smell the coffee and are content to preserve the current staus quo of a non solution...
But I wonder if the south is ever really short of water will they start to consider the offer that the Trnc/ Turkey made to supply water arriving by undersea pipeline to the south of the island.?

Well, if you read about Erdogan’s release of facts on genetic fingerprinting its citizens to demonstrate true Turks as opposed to mixed-race, such a Armenian, then you can see he is following closely in the footsteps of many despot leaders in history. He is creating an Islamic state. He has syphoned billions off personally, funded by deals with ISIL. He has committed more attrocities on his citizens than Gaddafi and yet the world tolerates him because of the size of his army and the location of US military bases.

On which planet do you live? Would Erdogan's recent behaviour lead you to believe that he knows how to soften an attitude. Can you imagine a scenario where Cyprus has hooked up to a pipeline through Turkey and the government in Cyprus did something against the interests of Turkey. Would Erdogan show a softened attitude and not turn off the supply of gas from Cyprus. Cyprus is a small country and its economy would be damaged. Come on, wake up and smell the coffee.

I think it’s people like you who should wake up and smell the coffee.. I take it you haven’t seen what is going on in Turkey these last few years...A despot taking his country back to the Stone Age.

I was over in the North of May 2016 the pipe line was a large engineering project. At that time there was talk of feeding it south and it fell through. Erdogan is not to be trusted (My view) as he has only Turkish interests at heart and does not give a shit about Cyprus or its people. Let this idiot get out of hand and he will show his real colours.
