Hopefully, now that the election is over we won't see parties pandering to the hunting fraternity anymore to gain votes!

Good news, the sovreign bases are doing a lot to try to combat this unspeakable bird trapping business. Now an equal amount of effort is required by the civil police, the courts, backed up by the Govt and MP’s. I wish!
Restaurants and tavernas who sell these birds to diners should be heavily fined if caught and closed down if they repeat this.

Yes, I know... But surely they realise that this medieval behavior should stop. It attracts such bad publicity for the island, apart from anything else.

Not just a Cypriot thing they do it in France too - a restaurant near Grasse serves them as a speciality as do other restaurants in villages throughout France.

Not only a Cypriot thing..Italy, France, Malta, Egypt, Lebanon ..and most Med country’s, ive been living here for thirty years and it’s not going to stop its a way of life to many Cypriot villages,... and I’ve been invited to Cypriot family’s houses especially around Paralimni in the east where I’ve seen young children munching them by the dozen, so will it die out, don’t bet on it.

Spain is guilty, too...
But I believe I'm correct in saying that the Cypriot attitude to wild birds is that they eat our crops, and are therefore taking the bread out of our mouths. So they feel no regrets in killing then eating them...

Besides, until the UK ups its game on the factory farms I don't think they can take too much of a moral highground. I'm not condoning the Cypriots, but plenty of cruelty occurs in the UK food chain as well.

How true, every country is guilty of animal cruelty, but it's up animal lovers to fight to stop it.
