Has anyone any experience of this retirement/nursing home?
My mother is currently in hospital after suffering a fall and is unable to manage at home for the next couple of weeks so somewhere like this would be ideal for her to recover a bit more and give us chance to adapt the house to make it safer for her when she does return, I would just like some first hand information about it if possible.
Thanks in advance
Or does anyone have any other suggestions for care homes (or any to avoid!)
Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
There is the one at Polemi that I heard good reports of a couple of years ago.The only adverse report I heard was from a lovely Cypriot couple whose father was in there. He was terminally ill and very frail but was not incontinent. However because he needed assistance to go to the toilet they were too busy and so used incontinence pads which he was so embarrassed by as he felt he had lost his dignity. Whether or not this happens in other homes I do not know
Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
We looked at the Blue cross one, and made a couple of visits.. It seems pretty good on the face of it..
But I did talk to a patient out in the garden and there are things that happen, that a look around would not show... We looked at loads of places and would say this is probably a very good one, and it was also the dearest, with money wanted in advance.
We also looked at 'The Warm Nest' in Polemi village.. This was well run and the patients are encouraged to sit at the dining table (if possible) for meals... This was the one that we finally decided to use for our Dad.... Sadly he was only there for a few weeks when he was taken to hospital and died. But we still feel we made the right choice... It was handy for us as we live in Polemi..
PM me if you want to..

Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
Thank you both for the replies - just a quick update, I took my mother there yesterday afternoon but found it to be totally unsuitable for her needs, luckily before I had paid, as they requested cash payment and I needed to go to the bank. So I removed her immediately and she is back in the Iasis hospital for a few days before we try taking her home, hopefully with carers in place to help.
I won't go into details on here, but if anyone wants any info, please pm me.

Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
The fact that Blue X demanded money in advance is off-putting. How much do they charge for a single room?
Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
The room is one thing, but they will assess the amount care that is needed, that would be another charge

We heard that Warm Nest in Polemi was managed by a relative of Dr Dora. Not confirmed though.....

I posted this originally over 6 years ago - no idea why someone should answer now!
My mother has had a Filipina carer at home for over 5 years and now lives in the Panayia Maria care home in Chloraka as her condition has gradually worsened. She is very happy and very well cared for there so I can confidently recommend it should anyone be reading this and require care home services.

I visited the Virgin Mary care home in Chloraka a few months ago and was immediately felt welcome by both staff and clients (not sure of the correct term). Happy to recommend this caring and well run establishment.

Re: Blue Cross Retirement Home - Mesa Chorio
I was a Caseworker for a charity assisting mainly expats for a number of years here in Paphos and had to deal with a number of Care Homes. Most had issues of varying degrees and one was particularly awful, not any of those on this post I add.
A Care Home where we had a client who was well cared for and seemed happy was the Warm Nest in Polemi.
That was about 4 years ago though.
