Just saw this on a friend's Facebook:

So upset. Just found a fox dead down from my house, poisoned and ..... and .... are at the vet with dog number three. Let's hope we are on time with this one.
And the police or mukthar they don t care....
Please be aware Ayia Marinoudha Paphos poison everywere. Don't let your dogs walk free and check everything they sniff on.

What is going on at the moment?

We've had a spate of poisonings in Pissouri this past couple of weeks and multiple dogs have been killed...

Awww Louise, fingers tightly crossed. This damned horrendous stuff has to be stopped somehow.

Hunting season always brings a spate of this dreadful act, it never stops and the locals may have an answer to why they do this.

Why does hunting season make people lay poison?

To keep the hunters away from their properties....

why are they called "hunters" I think the wild life in Cyprus is not harmful, except certain snakes.
hope the unharmfull doggie recovers, these hunters seem very brave characters.

The current hunting season is WITHOUT dogs - so those whose hunting dogs did not perform adequately during the November & December 2016 season will perhaps have just released the poor dogs to fend for themselves.
I suspect the poison is put down by landowners fed up with wandering dogs - or even dogs being walked and perhaps not being "poop scooped".
Whatever the reason, there is no justification for the deliberate poisoning of canines.

Wouldn't a sign saying "Danger! Poison!" act as a better deterrent? You wouldn't even need to lay any poison.

With or without hunting dogs it does not stop locals poisoning animals, again I say ask them why they do this especially around the hunting season but not necessarily so, a hateful crime, and that it is what this is.

Unfortunately the mind set of certain people in Cyprus will ensure that these poisonings will continue, its the same year in Year out. Be very vigilent whenever you walk your dogs and try to vary your route as much as possible. Keep away from routes close to villages.

We've had another spate of poisonings here in Pissouri - three dogs killed...

My neighbour yesterday set up a Cyprus Poison Watch Faceache page with a website to follow...

Early days yet obviously but it could provide useful warnings in future...

On this the subject of the many poisonings I've created a new resource to hopefully help map these.
It's very new and by that I mean today is it's first day online, the facebook page has been running a little longer, but not much.

I really need everybody's help when it comes to the reporting of poisonings, obviously I can't be everywhere at once but many people make light work so any help would be appreciated.

I know of skippy kit and will hopefully be working along side it as time allows me to.

Please help me build the resource I'm certain that in the future it will become very useful in saving the lives of pets.

Where do these people get the poison rom, can it just be bought over the counter?
If so can't that be stopped?

I think it's excellent the way Pissouri is trying to work together to help deal with this awful problem. The trouble is there are different types of poison being used & in some cases a muzzle won't help as the animal can absorb the poison through its paws. It's a terrible thing to say but until a child is killed through this indiscriminate use of poison the situation won't improve.
