Given that it is already happening, why would there need to be a petition? What would it's stated aim be?

To give an opposing view to the 1.4m people who have petitioned against the visit!
I would sign it.

Well, anybody can start a petition, can't they? I'm just wondering how you would word it.

Suspend your natural thoughts for a moment. Let your minds run free ..

... just suppose ... unlikely as it is .. and all votes were authentic ...

If this petition got 17.2 million votes would that be enough to cancel Trump's invitation ... or would the vote count need to be much higher?

Personally I don't see why you would want one. Disregarding my personal feelings about Trump, I don't see the point in petitioning for something which is already happening.

Because the great unwashed may well stop the visit, which in the medium term can help the UK economy.

Nor do I, it is totally unnecessary.
As is the one to try and prevent Trump coming to UK on a State Visit, because it is going to take place anyway.
All part and parcel of the UK<>USA special relationship.

Thanks for the link Lloyd I just added my name to the "In Favour" petition. Seems only right and proper in the circumstances.
