Allesley wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 9:21 am Yes, this is a problem living on Cy, worse in villages, most of the locals leave their dogs outside all of the time, I have never heard of an answer apart from going deaf, or moving to a field far out of town, most of us have to put up with noise pollution at some time here. My personal hate is children on noisy mopeds, no exhausts no insurance no helmets. I am thinking of cheese wire across the road. ;)
If you do that make sure you do it away from your house so you don't get the blame.
Dogs? Many locals just poison them, I think shooting them would be more humane.
Noisy mopeds? Pour some oil on a bend when they are around - again not near your house.
I hasten to add I have not resorted to any of the above, we have not been here long enough to be totally cheesed off yet.
But they are methods told to me by A.N.Other.

You really are an unpleasant individual.
I was merely commenting on earlier posts who suggested (for e.g.) chicken wire.
I suggested a more humane method would be shooting.
I also went to lengths to say I had NOT personally done such things, I would not.
These barking dogs are a serious problem in villages and small towns.
The "unpleasant individuals" are their owners.
Amos.
P.S. In Israel, as in many Middle East States, stray dogs are rounded up and culled. Noisy ones are too if reported. Basically zero tolerance. Cats too.

I suspect that Allersley’s comments were said tongue in cheek. I don’t think that he would do anything like that! He’s an animal lover and loves his dog.
Mind you kids, and some older than that, can make a right nuisance larking around on the road riding clapped out machnes with no exhaust.. parental control needed comes to mind.

While we are on this subject, does anybody know please where to report barking dogs (within the Paphos Municipality area)? Thanks in advance.

As with everywhere else, the first stop should be seeking advice from the Mukhtar. Before you ask, yes Paphos does have one. Mukhtars have considerable power should they choose to use it, and a word from them seems to resolve most things.

With respect I don't think forum members can reasonably expect their posts to escape critical scrutiny by pulling that lame excuse.

Dee you only suspect? :)

On my part the cheese wire was a joke, but the noise is a big problem if, like many of us you live with the locals, they are loud but these kids are a danger not only to themselves but those who use the same roads, by the way, a lovely little white dog was hit by a car near us this afternoon, all very upsetting as it was yelping in pain for some time, I hope it survives and was taken to the local vets by its Cypriot lady owner, this lady has had other dogs that have come and gone, they are free to run out onto the road, why they have dogs is a mystery, always has been.

I think some on PL have now lost their sense of humour, and of course Dee I would not hurt a fly, well maybe a fly, as many of you may remember I was always very keen on animal welfare on CL and had several sections just for that reason, the bikes well they go past our local village policeman & the Mukhtar house, do they do anything about it, one guess.

And another gripe why do members insist quoting on all of their postings?, just use the name of the poster, mine is Jim..

Quoting avoids ambiguity. I tend to shrink the quote if it gets too big. It also makes it easier to follow a big post because people know what you are responding to.

It is entirely optional though :)

Trouble is Dom you read the same stuff several times, I never thought it necessary and sometimes negative and argumentative, just my opinion of course. No real problem for me. :)

I agree with Allesley, we are in danger of suffocating our bizarre British sense of humour with political correctness. This shows a lack of perception of the difference between what is a serious comment and what is humour. Having read loads of comments in this forum, experience gives some insight into those posters that post 'tongue in cheek'.
Without humour we fall into the category of being 'boring'.

I have no problems with barking dogs - at all :-)
We have 3 CockerPoo's next door to us.

Sadly, I developed tinnitus only very recently following a wonky moment diagnosed as BPPV in early December. It's not so bad when the TV is on but drives me mad when I go to bed!

I knew Jim was joking. Exodus sounded like he meant it, or, at the very least, wanted to stir up trouble. Again.

A cure for barking dogs......educate the owners but I think that would fall on deaf ears mostly here.......if I was kept in a cage or on a chain I would definitely voice an opinion like these dogs 🐶

I think what Amos needs to get a grip of is that the Brits have an entirely different sense of humour to the rest of the world, in terms of irony, double meanings, and subtlety..

Do the Israelis have no sense of humour? Amos- tell us your favourite Israel joke, please, then we'll get an idea.. Meanwhile, Amos, the emojis that members add to their messages give you a BIG clue as to the poster's mood at the time.

In Jim's 'Cheese Wire' case, he ended with a ;) (wink), meaning joking, tongue in cheek. Surely you can see that? If not, you're very naiive on bulletin board lingo, m8!

Cheers- AL :)
