Not sure if this applies to you, but if you are 70 or over and have owned the vehicle for 10 years, there is a reduction in tax.

When road tax for pick ups was increased in line with other similar sized diesel engines their resale values dropped as some people only bought them because they were low tax, I think that they used to be €180 per year.
A good time to buy one now, but I expect that their resale value will increase very soon.

Happy Days - that will be a nice bonus for my D-max renewal soon.

The archive pic in the article was more likely taken in the US or in the ME - as non of those vehicles would qualify from an engine size point of view.

My Isuzu twin cab went down from 281 Euros (last 4 years) to 206 Euros now. All over Europe diesel-powered engines are getting higher taxed these days, or even banned from city centres, but here in lovely Cyprus we get a 25+% reduction. I love it...

Duo cabs and pick up trucks are the small businesses work horse here, I suppose one could equate it to the donkey in times gone by.... From a political viewpoint how many potential Cypriot voters must own a pick up type truck? So it was a good move in an election year to lower the road tax on them!
As to the pollutant problems with diesel engines, Cyprus it paying some attention to this as they have introduced new equipment in the MOT centres which can measure a vehicles carbon emisions but they must be very selective as to which type of vehicle they are applying it to!!

Living in a rural area, the donkey is most often in the driver's seat, with its front right hoof hanging out the window, wreathed in cigarette smoke, and its left front hoof holding a mobile!

The biggest problem are the old banger twin cabs driven mainly from old farmers. If you are behind one uphill you cannot see the road anymore as the fumes are so heavy. They pollute the air in a big way specially when they drive with heating diesel. These one's should not be allowed to drive around, but then we are in Cyprus - they also get the discount now...

Yes, I have seen the aged vehicles, sometimes with equally ancient drivers who judging by their driving skills (or rather sometimes the lack of them) never took a driving test. Thus their vehicles seem also to be the worse for wear too. I wonder if they ever see an MOT test centre, but I doubt it! Now with more people back in employment, from what I have read, these old vehicles are making an appearance on the roads again, some maybe have been off the road for several years.

That may well be true, Lloyd. But some of these young drivers are also very dangerous, driving too fast for road conditions and often seemingly oblivious of other road users and often lacking experience and driving skills. They never-the -less take stupid risks compounded by natural impatience. Witness some of the accidents...

From March 12 police will check and report drivers for whose cars the tax has not been paid.

Those who pay after March 11 will be charged €10 plus 10 per cent of the amount due for the year.

That article is from last December. The authorities usually relent and give drivers another month or two..
