Income Tax Return

For those who don't already know, paper tax returns are no longer being accepted and therefore all returns have to be submitted electronically from the 2017 tax year.
My source is a senior member of staff at the Pafos Tax office. He tells me that there will be a media announcement shortly.
If you have been issued with a Taxpayer's Identification Code (TIC) then form
IR 66A E1
should, I say conservatively, be available for completion at
https//taxisnet.mof.gov.cy
At the moment returns should be submitted by the end of February, however, surprise surprise, they are anticipating technical problems and this date will most likely be extended. For further information the telephone number for the Pafos Tax Office is 26 804364, office hours 8am - 14.30
The exchange rate £€ for 2017 will also be available soon.
I have put this thread in the general discussion area initially so it reaches members who don't have this information, before it transfers to the Financial section.

That's what I like, giving plenty of advance notice for those who usually make a paper submission. A time limit of the end of February and its already nearly the end of January. All my financial records are in Cyprus but I won't be back in Cyprus until beginning of April.

It is simply UNFAIR of the Tax Office to insist on online tax returns! Many of their taxpayers are NOT equipped with computers, let alone internet access, for crying out loud!!

Is this the same one we usually complete by the end of April? We have already submitted two 6 monthly estimated ones, for June and December last year and paid on those estimates. We still haven't received our rebate from the year before when we over estimated!

I think some clarification is needed on this issue... Both my wife and I are retired and have in previous years filled in a paper form, and returned it to the Tax office usually around April..
We know nothing of the submitting of forms estimating tax... And we have never paid any amounts in June and December.. ???????????????????

Trev, we are required to do the two estimated forms because we pay tax here on our UK rental, not in the U.K..

Me too since retiring . I phoned the Paphos office this morning and was told that I should write to them with figures for my pensions and if they are below the tax threshold the file will be closed and no need to submit a return .
I believe a similar system is used in the UK .

Neither my my wife or myself earn (from UK pensions) anywhere near the tax allowance here.
I am hoping that the income tax forms will come through the post as usual...

Trev,
There appear to be at least two procedures for submitting income tax forms in Cyprus.
There is the one that has been explained in earlier postings whereby estimates are submitted.
The other procedure is that the Cyprus Tax Office once a year send a form in the post and you complete the appropriate sections (mine being only pensions) for the previous year. I nip down to the tax office and submit the form at the cashiers desk and pay on my Hellenic debit card. I have been doing this for years without any trouble. My wife submitted her tax form in the same way but because her pensions were below the threshold the cashier said not to bother.
For my private pension paid into my UK bank account I get the exchange rate from the wall opposite reception in the tax office even though there is no requirement to quote it on the tax form. I know some people who get a monthly exchange rate (from where I don't know) and convert each monthly payment and then gross up the twelve amounts. Any dispute with the tax office about exchange rates I'm fairly certain which rate the tax office will quote.

Alewfin... from the original post it seems you (and I) will no longer get or be able to submit, paper forms..
" For those who don't already know, paper tax returns are no longer being accepted and therefore all returns have to be submitted electronically from the 2017 tax year. "

It says "or other means......" We have to await what that means.

Mike, I have read and reread the original post, and cannot see the words "or other means". ???

I think in this household... we will just wait and see if we get the forms through the post as per usual.
If not, then we will take action..

Being new to the Island but having registered for income tax, I was confused by all this.
So I went to the tax office and was told I would be getting my first tax return for 2017 for completion in the post.
I enquired about on-line, I was told this is an option, but it still has to be posted or handed in; not possible to submit it on-line yet because they need it signed.
They seem to be getting into the 21st Century slowly.
Amos.
