Fao Dominic and Devil

Dominic I fully understand that you will have your work cut out at the moment with this site but just another question for you how difficult or easy is it to have the daily Weather forecast as a footnote as it was on CL under the Cams - was this just a selected link which updates constantly or something more - And would Devil be able to help with this ( He may not want to )I know he is in Mosfiloti but could he forecast for Paphos or provide a link to the current temp etc for the Paphos area.

Try weatherunderground .com. It does weather for many locations including Paphos. It is usually pretty accurate!

I did try implementing Accuweather into the main site last night. The first stab was unsuccessful, as PaphosLife uses SSL security (https), and Accuweather wants to serve everything up over http. The problem there is that a lot of modern browsers (and especially Chrome) disallow http over https. So I either need to find an Accuweather https widgit, or make a non-secure page.

So watch this space...

Oh and Accuweather gets my vote because it is free to implement.

Actually this one is worth looking at too. It has a free API for low usage (under 500 requests a day) which is good, because all I would need to do is cache the information once every 5 minutes. But it also means I would have the power to display the weather info however I chose.

Ok, Paphoslife is black tie and Accuweather is wearing trainers, so I need to create a tradesman's entrance so that Accuweather can deliver its goods without getting the carpet dirty.

What I like the most on the Accu weather is to click on
Paphos Satellite window, click again on Satellite and then
click on play. This updates every hour and one can recognize
the clouds on close up moving on.

Unfortunately, I can't do anything for Paphos without setting up a weather station there. Even if someone were willing to house and maintain it in their garden and run a dedicated computer 24/7, the capital cost would be about €1500. The only thing is to take my Mosfiloti readings and guess the time interval for the weather to travel between Paphos and Mosfiloti. Sorry!

As the weather in CY is different every 5-10 km it is already
very difficult to forecast rain. It is often very cold, windy, rainy at Tsada,
while down 10km in Kato Paphos it is pleasant. Christmas Day I enjoyed
Dinner barbecue with my Cypriot friends from 1-4 pm in brilliant sunshine while up Tsada only clouds....

This does raise a good question. If I was to use raw data from a weather service, I could display it any way I wanted. However, in order to get that data, I would have to ask for it for a specific location.

As cyprusmax47 points out, there is no point just having the weather in Paphos, so what other locations would be required?

Paphos
Polemi
Polis
Panagia

Does anybody have any other locations? They don't have to begin with P.

Peyia of course!

Sorry another 'P'.

This is the nonsense not only on Accu Weather as it always shows the
same temperature and conditions in surrounding villages.
To find correct measures you need the private weather stations
installed around Paphos district....

link
https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/ ... c%20Cyprus

You have to click on Weather Stations and p.a. Temperature/wind and you will
see all our Paphos private stations.
Just checked the two in Peyia and the one coral bay shows 13.7C while the other on the hills is only 7C
Thats shows it all, but to get all this information for people interested in the real weather forecast would be great
in one click or two.... and people also can get the exact reading of rain mm and not only guessing..

With all due respect, I don't trust data from many private weather stations. Not only are the cheapo stations of doubtful accuracy but, more often than not, they are not installed correctly. There are guidelines for installation, such as the type and heights of the screen (1.5 m) and the anemometer (3 m), surrounding houses and vegetation, altitude correction etc. I admit that my NOAA calibrated equipment is not installed correctly, as I don't have a flat field without obstructions, but I do have software correction for some parameters where errors would otherwise exist.
