I'll start conserving water once my Cypriot neighbours stop hosing the pavement and half the street down on an almost daily basis. Until then all efforts are futile!

Don't forget the pools that need topping up, and all the irrigation systems out there, when you are apportioning blame.

I emptied a tonne of water out of the pool the other day. Looks like I'll have to repeat the exercise when it stops raining. And before anybody comments, no I do not flood out fields or neighbours lower in the valley. I pump to waste into a 1 tonne barrel and then half open the spigot so the barrel empties slowly, giving the water a chance to soak into the ground rather than rushing off and causing erosion.

Spigot. That's a good one to save for I Spy.

I would be careful where I use the pool water. The garden certainly will not like the chemicals which are in this water...nor does any agricultural farm nearby. I remember many years back when I was lazy and watered the then very expensive palm trees in pots around my pool (each was 200 CYP) with a bucket of pool water. After 1 month they were all dead! I learned my lesson, though.

At this time of year there's not much chemical in the water, particularly as we had the pool relined towards the end of last year.
In the summer, the "vac to waste" water sits in the barrel until I'm ready to pump it (using solar power) to a couple of smaller barrels located in the garden, where again it sits for a while before being used. Thus the chemicals mostly dissipate over time, and I've not had problems using the water on established plants (Hottentot fig, yucca and rosemary mostly).

The weeds by our waste pump thrive on the water that comes out. Can't get enough of it.

I agree completely, but I'll start to worry about my pool and irrigation usage only when the people around me do the same. I'm sick of being made to feel guilty for any water usage (that I pay heavily for every month) when I see such blatant waste all around me.

Maybe they should publish the water usage of every property to name and shame the wasters. They are already doing this in Cape Town: https://www.thesouthafrican.com/cape-to ... s-it-work/

Ok, then don´t publish mine . Oh, I forgot I only have borehole water so there is nothing to be published anyway.
