Canute was misunderstood! He was an early victim of negative spin.

The tide tables for Kissonerga (posted by bromerzz above) tend to disagree with your fisherman son in law, m_b...
@Lincoln: Out of interest, did you happen to notice how much Riccos is charging for a large bottle of Carlsberg / Keo these days, when you had a drink stop in there?

I know it is totally and utterly wicked but, . . . . . . . . . .this subject ALWAYS makes me giggle.
I definitely used to notice the difference in the tide at Mandria when I lived in and around the Pahos area. Seriously.

And Limassol but sadly always fell on deaf ears and fishermen's tales

Is this how you all amuse yourselves when the telly is on the blink?

No I meant "Austin7 is Old Twister". I didn't mean "Old Twister had a thing about tides".

Just to say.... My telly is not on the blink

but the "tide" in Cyprus has always made for an interesting debate on which it seems most of us agree we have actually witnessed them.
Some of us have produced photos to show said rise and fall but there are those that will never be convinced and prefer to rely on tales from the fishermen instead
I just can't believe Lincoln didn't take photos!

Paphos harbour ..........
Not where the boats park up but the stretch where the shops and bars are located, down to the sunbsthing bit with decking and changing rooms. Got it?
Well ..... they certainly have a tide, don't try telling me any different.
The water comes right up to the sea wall there and then it goes out, exposing the rocks.
Certainly looks like a tide, anyway.

Thanks for that little nugget of wisdom, Trev! When last in Paphos in 2008, β¬2-40 was a fairly typical price for a large bottle of Carslberg in local bars like the Wheatsheaf, Alexanders, et al. Not a bad increase, considering a decade has passed...
But Riccos Beach went straight for the jugular after the introduction of the β¬uro and was charging β¬3-50 a large bottle. Ouch! Which is why I was wondering what he charges these days?

Yes, there is definitely a bi-daily tide here, but is small, averaging about 18 cm Β± 7 cm between spring and neap. Much more important are the changes of level due to atmospheric pressure variations. If there is a high pressure over Cyprus and a low pressure over Spain (or vice versa), the level of the water can change significantly but not periodically, possibly exceeding a metre.

That makes emminent sense, Hudswell. If the mighty forces contained within wave systems cannot reach the beach, due to groynes and defences in their way, then surely the wave energy will be dispersed by the waves finding their natural way around the flanks of such artificial man-made sea defences?
Mother Nature always finds the weakest point for attack...
You mention high tides. That's a cracker, LMAO!
