Inspired by Dominic's blog review 2017 I thought members would like to see again some of my animal pics I posted this year...

It started with the surprise hedgehog, disturbing the sleep of my dog Lucky
Image

and 3 month later another surprise: hedgehog baby arrived at the scene..
Image

this Agama found her favourite place on the patio, next to Lucky on one of my crystal stones
Image

but also on the fence to get some food from there, but a bee?
Image

very rare this year but some are around: butterflies
Image

they always move when you come to close with the camera
Image

and then there was the story of the little field mouse, caught in my mouse trap under the car, desperate for water and food..
Image

sure you remember the great story of the chameleon and the lawnmower recently, but this was earlier, chameleon and the rock crystals....
Image

it was the same time I managed this pic near Marathounda valley of the Bonelli eagle pair
Image

in the summer heat birds and lizards needed water and a bath...
Image

as the space is limited I have to stop now with the image of the huge praying mantis

Absolutely wonderful photography, made even better by the commentary. Agreed Yioula, they should be in a magazine - or a Paphos Life calendar, like Countryfile do! I was impressed by the bee, the details you can see even though it is flying.

Thank you Max, you bring a lot to the forum and go to a lot of trouble to share things with us all.

Fabulous photos through the year Max. Thanks for keeping at this and for today's reflection. From a cold and wet England they made my day.

I believe you bought yourself a new camera this year. Given the quality of the photos (which of course is the person and the equipment) would you mind sharing details of what camera you are currently using?

Nearly all of these pics I did with my old camera Sony HX1 with an 20X zoom. As there are many situations I needed a longer zoom (for bee eater, butterflies, but also Landscape photos and pics from the Sun I got myself a new camera in August this year. It is a Sony Bridge Camera HX 400V (GPS) with an excellent Carl Zeiss optic and now 50xzoom (100xdigital) and much more pixel than the old camera. The only thing is that there are so many settings you can choose that I will need a long time to understand them all when I need to. (200 pages instructions) So from this post there is only 1 photo from the new camera which is the praying mantis. At my second post: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4311 the photos from the bee, Scorpion and black snake are with the new equipment.

The GPS feature is really useful I think. I hope you have an app on your desktop/laptop where you edit, manage, sort, store your many photos that also allows you to see them on a map (i.e. where they were taken). On my Mac I use iPhoto and it not only shows the date and location of the photo but also in which direction it was taken - sometimes quite useful especially if you are such a prolific photographer that goes off regular tracks as you do. A.

I bought the camera locally in Paphos, as their price was lower than on Ebay or Amazon and no transport costs...

Robert- now you know the exact make and model, you should be able to download the 200 page User Manual in PDF format and save it locally on your PC.

It will give you the chance to bone up on its functions and workings before you arrive in Cyprus in mid-2018!

AL :)

It does not work like that, Alan. In my opinion you need the camera in front of you and start with normal pics, following the instruction booklet. Only practical experience brings you forward. When you are not happy with the result of your photos, THAN is the time to go to the large User manual which you can download. A lot of functions you never need or only at times. And you will forget the hundreds of them if you don't need them every day...So the best for Robert would be to buy the camera early in the year and learn how it works, BEFORE coming to Cyprus.
